Dear Erickson Families,

Next week is EARTH Week. Please view the flyer below to learn about ways to take care of our Earth while at home or at school next week.

On April 20-21, Erickson students will host a fundraiser for Ukraine families. Students will be selling items and all donations will go to families in Ukraine. See flyer below.

Did you know that each grade level does a service project to benefit the community and to learn about ways to give back to others and show appreciation? Erickson students presented to the Board of Education on grade level service projects. Check out Erickson's Service Projects: Eagles Soar to Support Others to learn more! Way to go Arjav S. (5th), Nithya M. (5th), Maggie M.(4th), Drew K. (4th), Andrew D. (3rd) and Yuktha M. (3rd) for your STELLAR presentation to the Board of Education.

Congratulations to Olivia W. in 4th grade for earning the March District 13 Exemplar Award for being a Standout 4th Grade Student. One of her teachers stated, "Olivia is a kind, helpful, charismatic student who takes responsibility for her own learning. She asks questions, helps others, and is a positive light to all those around her. She enters the classroom with a smile on her face each day and doesn't let things get her down." Way to go Olivia!

Erickson Family Calendar

Includes all the Erickson dates for the school year

5th-to-6th Grade Transition Night

Current 5th Grade students and their parents/guardians are invited to visit Westfield Middle School on May 12th from 6:00pm - 7:30pm for 5th-to-6th Grade Transition Night.

5th Graders will begin the evening with Westfield Student Council members and will be provided a short presentation and a tour of the building.

Parents will begin the evening in the Athletic Gym and will be provided a presentation by Westfield Administration and Staff highlighting the unique aspects of middle school.

The presentations will begin at 6:00pm. Please enter through our Athletic Entrance, Door 32, located along the front parking lot.

Following the presentations, parents will have the opportunity to visit with staff members, tour the building with their child, and visit our Book Fair.

Student Placement for 2022-2023

Student Placement for 2022-2023 will take place in May. Parents can assist in the process by completing a Student Placement Information form. Parent input about their child’s academic experiences can provide valuable insight to this process. Parents should not use this form to recommend a specific classroom teacher. If you are interested in filling out the form (this is NOT mandatory), please complete by April 22.

Fundraiser for Families in Ukraine

On April 20-21 Erickson students will host a fundraiser for families living in Ukraine. The fundraiser will be led by 3 second grade students: Alexa D., Lydia S., and Rudy M. They will be raising money for family friends of an Erickson staff member who live in Ukraine. Here is some information about the families in Ukraine (click link) where the donations will reach. Alexa and Lydia will be selling a $3.00 bundle that includes a heart flag pin, blue/yellow bracelet and sucker. Rudy will be selling $2.00 yellow/blue flag or flower keychains, with the help of many Erickson students, were handmade. During the lunch hour on April 20 & 21, interested students can stop by the lobby to make a donation to these families.

Summer 2022 Basketball and Soccer Camps

Summer 2022 Basketball and Soccer Camps

The dates and times have been set for both basketball and soccer summer camps. The camps are for any incoming 1st thru 6th graders (the grade your child will be in the Fall). If you are interested in having your child attend one or both of these camps, then please click on the registration link here. Please fill out all the necessary information and send that in with your check to either your child’s main office at their school or Westfield’s main office. Note: Camp will be held at DuJardin Elementary this year. This is a change from previous years.

PTO Information

Hot Lunch: We are looking for volunteers to help distribute hot lunch on Mondays and Fridays. If you are interested, the hours are 11:20-12:50pm. Please sign up using this form:

Box Tops: Don't forget to download and use the Box Tops app to scan your receipts and earn money for Erickson.

PTO Scholarship: One more month for graduating seniors who attended Erickson to apply for the PTO Scholarship. Applications can be found on the Erickson or District 13 websites. There are two $750 scholarships available. They are due on 4/15. Good Luck!

The Bloomingdale School District 13 Parent Teacher Organization is pleased to announce the availability of scholarships. We will be awarding scholarships to two graduating Seniors who attended Erickson. Applications are due into Erickson by April 15, 2022

Erickson Elementary PTO - Open Volunteer Positions for 2022/23 School Year

Fun Fair/Back to School Event: Two volunteers work together to coordinate a back to school event in August on a Friday evening. The event includes the sale of food/drinks, and entertainment provided, such as inflatables, face painting, games, photo booth, magic show and a DJ. The entertainment may change from one year to the next.

Holiday Gift Corner: One volunteer coordinates the opportunity for students to purchase inexpensive gifts for their families for the holiday season. The volunteer works with approximately 20 volunteers to help inventory, set up display tables, price items, help students make their selections, and act as cashier.

Holiday Cookie Decorating: One volunteer coordinates with an outside vendor (Entrée Kitchen or local bakery like D’s Treats) to have a holiday cookie decorating event on an evening in December at Erickson Elementary. Children decorate cookies to take home. Santa makes a visit and provides a small treat to the students.

Talent Show: One volunteer coordinates the Talent Show for 4th & 5th Grade students. The volunteer works with an Erickson staff member to oversee auditions, rehearsals, an evening performance for families and a day time performance for the student body. The process usually start after Winter Break with a performance in February or March.

Valentine Grams: One volunteer coordinates the Valentine message & treat distribution for students & staff on Valentine’s Day.

Spirit Week: One volunteer coordinates Spirit Week activities to be held in March in conjunction with Spirit Day. Activities include at least one family activity in the evening, one in-school activity, and Spirit Day. Other activities can be themed dress-up days, contests, etc.

Spring Family Fun Night: Two volunteers work together to coordinate a family fun night in the Spring. Family activities may include: Movie Night, Bingo Night and Paint Night. The list of activities may change from one year to the next.

Field Day: Two volunteers work together to coordinate approximately 30 volunteers to assist on Field Day. Field Day is a fun day of outdoor games and other activities at the end of the school year. The day includes snacks, lunch, and afternoon treat, all provided by the PTO. As well as game set-up, and coordinating volunteers to assist with the games. Field Day is coordinated with the Physical Education Department.

Room Parent Coordinator: One volunteer coordinates all the Head Room Parents for each classroom, and all the Parent Volunteers for each classroom. Erickson PTO provides students with three parties each year (Halloween, Winter, Valentine’s Day) which consists of food/drink, craft and games.

Teacher Appreciation: One volunteer works to coordinate the set-up and order food for the appreciation meals throughout the year (usually during Parent/Teacher Conferences and Teacher Appreciation Week). This volunteer also coordinates advertising for Teacher Appreciation Week activities (May).

Organizing Volunteers for Erickson Elementary School Activities: Volunteers are needed to:

  • Assist school staff on the district hearing and vision screening day

  • Assist school staff on picture day

Marklund Run, Walk & Roll 5K - April 24, 2022

Marklund is very excited to (finally!) be back in-person for our 5th Annual Run, Walk & Roll 5K/1Mile fundraising event on Sunday, April 24th.

We’d love to get as many District 13 staff, students, and families involved this year.

Character Counts Pillar Shirts

If you are interested in ordering another Pillar Shirt, please fill out this PILLAR SHIRT ORDER FORM and send $10 in a marked envelope "PILLAR SHIRT" with your child. A new Pillar Shirt will be delivered to your child once the money is received. Please fill out one form per child.

The Backpack is filled with flyers and information from various organizations located throughout Bloomingdale.
