Benchmark Testing this Week
Dearest Parents and/or Important People,
Our Fourth, Fifth, Seventh, Eighth as well as some 6th graders will be taking STAAR benchmarks next week. These assessments will guide our instruction in the Spring semester. Students who travel for 7th grade athletics should report to Prestwick on the mornings listed below. Your learner(s) will take the tests as follows:
Monday, Feb. 11th
4th Writing
5th & 8th Math (8th Math on level, 7th grade PAP and 6th Compacted Math)
Tuesday, Feb. 12th
5th, 8th- Reading
7th - Writing (State Field test)
(Each test will take part on the designated day and students will have a four hour time limit work each day. )
Students have worked hard this year and have many skills to demonstrate on these two days. We are confident your students are well prepared and ready to give it 100%. A few tips to maximize your son and/or daughter(s) success are…
Students should arrive on time. Please do your best to make sure there are not any conflicts with out of school appointments on these days for your student.
Get a good night’s rest in order to feel alert and ready to focus.
Eat a healthy breakfast either at home or at school.
Have a positive send off for your student in the am. Students should feel supported by you as well as confident that they are prepared. We know some nerves are typical and healthy. Again we will assure students that all the hard work until this point of the year is their preparation.
We want to remind parents and students that on testing day all cell phones and/or electronics including smart watches must be turned in to teachers during the test for test security reasons. Cell phones will be taken care of and returned as soon as testing has concluded. We understand students have phones for various reasons and just want to encourage them to follow procedure and turn them in. Thanks in advance for reminding your student to do so.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact your child’s teacher or our office at 972-947-9450.

For the recent weeks in Mrs. Saldahna's MS Art classroom students put their learning and our core values of persistence and solution focus to the test. If you would like to see their learning on display visit our front office or cafeteria. We are #prestwickproud of their final product.
Students collected over 500 water bottles to collaboratively build s chandelier inspired by the artist Dale Chihuly, who is famous for his large scale glass sculptures. First they learned about the artist and the way he uses organic forms and vivacious colors. Then, the students started the design process by sketching and planning the steps to achieve what they have envisioned. They problem solved from the way of painting the bottles and how to cut them into spirals, to the way they would attach and hang them up. They tested a few ideas and finally they found a solution that had both the aesthetic and safety features to be hung at school.
