We need kindness so that everyone can get along - especially in a place as big as Vogeltown School. Kindness to people, to animals and to our grounds. Manaaki tangata, manaaki whenua!

*You practise environmentally friendly habits such as re-cycling

*You take excellent care of your friends, new people

*You accept that people are different

*You have respect for the feelings and well being of others

Kia ora koutou to our Vogeltown whanau,

We have completed a fantastic full week of school and what an amazing week it was! The school is very settled with the kids and staff mentioning the positive vibe they are feeling around the schools.

This week we are getting in to our programmes in the classrooms, making new connections with the teacher and class mates and beginning to build the learning routines. You will probably notice how tired your child(ren) are at the end of this week - the learning and heat certainly tire us out!

The Vogeltown Adventure is going to be on Friday the 28th February. We have had to make some last minute changes. We will be sending a detailed letter home next week. If you want to come, we will be asking parents to bring their own cars as room on the buses is tight. We will not be asking any money for this trip as it is part of our topic study this term.

Last week we sent home a 'Parent homework sheet' for every parent to fill in. This sheet is very important to us and we want to get 100% of these sheets back to school. The sheets give us some insight in to your child's passions, interests, talents, their curriculum interests and any other info you think we should know about your child. If you have not got a sheet, please ask your child's teacher or ask for a sheet at the office(s).

WELCOME - New VS students and whanau, Week 2 2020

A huge welcome to our new students and families to Vogeltown this week. Also welcome to our student teachers - Becky Wells and Lexi Harcourt.

We know that all our new students (and adults) and families will love their time at Vogeltown as they become part of our massive family! He mihi ki to tatou iwi hou - a welcome to our new people.

Welcome to the VS family!

Welcome to these awesome new students to VS:

Armeen Bano (Rm 4) and her brother Azlaan Shah (Rm 10).

A big welcome to our class reps for T1 2020. These students were selected by the teachers having gone through an application process.

The class reps have a massive leadership role to play at school - student meetings, student voice, helping with lunchtime games, helping the teachers, doing class surveys and running assemblies.

Well done to: Abby Hurley, Sam Knight, Jevana Dost, Harlan Goodin, Kace Raven, Leeanya Lepper, Ollie Treadway.

Big picture

Well done to these students who have been working towards our current school goal of Kindness this week. They received a Principal Award at assembly today:

Elijah Blue-Saints, Jace Davies, Mia Klenner, Riley Beattie, Skyla Chaopman-Sadler, Dima Jumashev, Jaxyn Fox, Ava Ackerman, Jaxon Corbett-Howcroft, Nuqman Zulheiry, Stirling Humphries, Charlotte Hall, Kahu Haimona, Rayyan Rasli, Hayden Turner, Lauren Gardner, Harry Ahkuoi-Hotene, Ashleigh Lowry, Tyson Baker, Lexie Coombe, Ngaia Peterken, Cooper Stockman-Geyde, Thomas Flitcroft, Ella Uncles, Jack Caswell, Ruby Smith, Rory Rathgen, Naufal Zulheiry.

Tu Meke!

We are using the 'Seesaw' app in all classes this year to communicate digitally with families and whanau. We want 100% sign up rate from our families - if you have not done so already, please download the app. A 'QR' code will be sent home from your child's teacher that you can scan and you will get some updates during the term of your child's class and your child's learning. This is just another way we want to engage with our Vogeltown families.

As you will be aware the situation is still evolving internationally concerning the coronavirus. Children are currently returning to classrooms. The health of all people is a priority and we will always err on the side of caution. If you have a particular concern please contact Healthline at 0800 611 116. Further information is available at:

Novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) guidance – Ministry of Healt

Yesterday every child received a 'Communication update form'. These are very important for the school. They provide you with the 'ways' we communicate with you at home and they also provide us with updates if you have had a change in contact details.

Please fill this form in and return it to your child's classroom teacher if you had a change in address, contact numbers, email address or any other contact details you think we need to know. Thanks heaps!

We are very lucky to have a school pool at Vogeltown. We are also very lucky to have an awesome staff who came in during the break to paint it up - it looks awesome!

As part of our PE and Health curriculum, we expect the kids to swim everyday. The new swimming curriculum encourages water safety, water exploration and water confidence at this age, so we do not expect kids to be doing lengths of freestyle and butterfly.

Please make sure your child(ren) have their togs ready to go each day, with the weather the way it is currently, we will be making the most of the pool.

If you want to use the pool after school hours, please see the senior office for a key. All keys are $45 ($5 back one key returned at the end of the season). You will be required to sign an agreement with the school - please read the terms and conditions carefully.

A reminder that any medication that the school office has to hold, or have on site, must be handed in to the junior or senior office. There is also a 'medication form' that all parents/caregivers will need to fill in when the medication is delivered.

Here is some information about this year's Weetbix TRYathlon. It usually sells out early so make sure you register ASAP if your child wants to take part!
