Egg Harbor Township High School

STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT
Students of the Week
STUDENTS: Brandon Won, Alex Pieretti, Johanna Baronowitz & Sarah Wenzel
NOMINATED By: The Renaissance Team and Mr. House
The Pep Rally was a fun time last Friday, but all of us there know that our sound system initially failed. Brandon, Alex, Johanna and Sarah stayed cool and calm during this dilemma, and assisted Mr. House in getting the speaker system together. This group of students looked like a NASCAR team, and with their expertise the Pep Rally was a success.
Class of 2002 Alumni Dave Sholler to take on expanded role for the 76ers
Dave Sholler has been making a positive impact on Egg Harbor Township High School since he was a student here from 1998-2002. Dave was not a participant on any of our sports teams as his main source of exercise came from his love of martial arts. However, his actions and performance to our sports teams through media and journalism made this high school erupt with school spirit and pride. He was a integral part of all of our teams just as if he was on our roster.
Under the direction of media teacher Mike Coyne and journalism teacher Karen Warner, Dave thrived in his ability to create stories and put them into action via EHT TV. He created his own sports show titled "Sports with Sholler" that was a must see during home room. His interviews with players and coaches were highly professional and I believe this started his now very successful career in sports journalism.
Watching Dave come back to EHTHS last year and share his story with our students and faculty was a huge indicator of what any student can accomplish while they are here. He was able to reach our students with the way he speaks and his ability to put himself in the very seat that they were sitting in. His ability to connect through his job with the Philadelphia 76ers put that "cool" label on what a lot of kids need to be engaged.
Dave is a successful product of this town, school district, and this high school and we are so proud of him and his accomplishments.

#EHTPRIDE Festival Deemed Big Success
On Saturday, September 21, EHTHS hosted the 2nd Annual #EHTPRIDE festival. It was an excellent opportunity for the district to exhibit all of the educational and extra-curricular opportunities available to our students and community. All in attendance could visit with various community partners, sports teams or clubs all while also being able to watch one of the many fall sporting events occurring throughout the day. The attendance and community support for the festival is a testament to the community spirit of EHT. #EHTPRIDE

WEEKLY GAME/SCORE REPORT
Girls Tennis
The girls tennis varsity team played in the South Jersey Coaches tournament last weekend. Ema Cadacio and Jamie Theophall advanced to the second round in singles before falling to seeded players. Samantha Phung advanced to the third round where she lost a tough match to the 5th seed. In doubles, Madison Braithwaite and Cecilia Munoz defeated Haddon Heights #1 doubles and lost to the 3rd seed, Cherry Hill East. EHT's first doubles, Jamie Theophall and Tiffany Tran, made it to the quarterfinals of the tournament.
In regular season play, the team swept Bridgeton and Atlantic City 5-0. Season record is now 8-2.
Varsity Field Hockey
Varsity field hockey defeated AC on Monday 6-0. Alexis Gray and Cheyenne Avellino each had two goals and Julia Hammer and Sarah Leconey each added a goal. Kaitlyn Riggs had 3 assists and Jette Trumbauer, Taylor Wright, and Alexis Gray also had an assist.
Varsity field hockey lost 1-0 to Milville on Wednesday. Rebecca Macchia was phenomenal in goal with 10 saves.
Girls Varsity Soccer
Home vs Mainland - 9/21/19
Record: 6-1-0
EHT suffered its first lost on EHTPRIDE Day to the Mainland Mustangs. Two unfortunate early goals were too much for EHT to overcome, but a valiant effort was put forth by junior defenders Meghan Maul and Hayley Duncan in particular. Junior Niki Danz scored the only EHT goal after a great build in the midfield started by junior Kristen Semet. In spite of the loss, EHT came in at the number eight seed in the first illustrious SJSCA tournament poll which is the highest in school history. The top sixteen teams in South Jersey as voted on by the coaches at the end of the fourth poll are entered into this prestigious tournament. EHT has been invited three times before.
Away at Millville - 9/23/19
Record: 6-2-0
EHT fell to CAL-American conference rival, Millville (8-0-0) on Monday 3-1. EHT took an early lead ten minutes into the game when junior Kyleigh Oberman hit a perfect free kick into the top corner. EHT defended the dangerous Millville attack for 60 minutes until the Thunderbolts were finally able to break through. Slightly deflated after hitting the crossbar and missing a few good scoring opportunities, EHT let up a couple late goals off of nice plays by Millville’s elite attackers. EHT looks to get back to its winning ways when it takes on Vineland on Friday.
Freshman Football
The freshmen football team hosted Kingsway High School. The team lost 17-0. The next game is Thursday 10/5 home against Washington Township.
Varsity Football
Cross Country
The boys and girls cross country teams competed this past Tuesday at our home course against Mainland and Absegami. The girls went 1-1 and go to 4-2 on the season and the boys went 0-2 to move to 3-3 on the season. The girls were led by senior Olivia Shafer and junior Mikki Pomatto who remain unbeaten in the CAL this season. The boys were led by juniors Nico Valdevieso and Aidan Winkler.
Varsity Volleyball
The Girls Volleyball Team had a busy week. We played a tough match against Mainland during the #EHTPride Festival, and lost 0-2. However, we rallied back with two decisive wins against Middle Twp and Lower Cape May on Monday and Wednesday this week! The team is now 2-5, and has a difficult match against Oakcrest tomorrow. Out next home games are Tuesday October 1st against ACIT and Thursday October 3rd against OLMA, both at 4pm. Come out and watch the fast paced action!
Varsity Boys Soccer
Monday, September 23rd, the Eagles were back in action with yet another long time foe of the Cape Atlantic League, the Thunderbolts of Millville. Millville, the homeland of Mike Trout, had been off to a great start due to their diligent play and bus parking playing style, but if the Bolts were playing the part of the gatekeeper, the Eagles will clearly the keymasters. It took minutes for the Eagles to find the net when the Eagle’s own Harry Houdini, Ahmad Brock, broke the lock of the Bolts defense and slotted a shot past there goalkeeper. Two minutes later, he repeated the death defying trick to an awe inspired crowd. In the 25th minute, a young Lucas Lainez was on the field and you could see that with his smile he was destined for glory. Well, glory didn’t come that day, because the Thunderbolt defense stopped him in his tracks, inside the box, breaking both his right to the net, and rules according to the NJSIAA rule book. As he was carried off the field by his coach, Lucas reached out to the one man that could bring him redemption...our maestro, Burak Cimen. With a point to the heavens, a point to Lucas, a point to his parents, a point to Coach Joe Lucchio running by, and a point to his own right foot, Burak stepped up the spot. The crowd remained silent as Burak stared down the keeper and started his approach. In his run, one teardrop fell from from his cheek, falling directly on the ball as he made contact. The ball soared into the top corner with a dong that could have been the start of ACDC’s Hell’s Bells. And with that, redemption had taken place. The Eagles would finish the game 3-0, improving their record to 8-1.
