Inspiring Excellence
Casa Grande Union High School District | February 2023
Staff Member of the Month
Mr. Simon Apodaca was recognized Tuesday, February 7, as the Staff Member of the Month at the district’s Governing Board meeting. Mr. Apodaca is a vibrant personality who is warm and welcoming at all times. His level of service in ensuring our facilities are extremely well sanitized and clean has been nothing short of exemplary. He is professional, positive, upbeat, courteous, and goes above and beyond in his job duties for the district. Several employees throughout the district count it a blessing to get to interact with him on a daily basis. One leaves an interaction with Mr. Apodaca feeling better about the day!

CGUHS Band Boosters
The CGUHS Band Boosters were recognized at the district's Governing Board meeting on Tuesday, February 7, for all the awesome work they do for our students. Mr. Hebda, Band Director, sees their dedication and commitment to the band program on a weekly basis, “It is exciting that others see it as well. Our group of boosters spends hours a week helping to plan our events, build props, and making sure we have drivers and food to feed the students. For years, all the props for our Marching Band and Indoor Drumline/Guard shows have been designed by and built by our boosters. Our current President Patsy Burruel and Vice President Wayne Oden ask, ‘What do we need to make the show great?’, then they always deliver! Sometimes, the design team comes up with some unconventional ideas (stage in the middle of the field, movable platforms that the guard can stand and spin on, five Easekes that can magnetically attach puzzle pieces, and, of course, this year, Mr. Hebda wanted to turn the entire band red!). The boosters just nod their heads and say, ‘We can make that happen.’ They put in so many hours to support our students. We could not function without them and are honored to have the opportunity to work with them. They are a class act all the way!”

I cannot thank Estrella enough for the level of commitment she has granted the program throughout the course of the academic year. Her enthusiasm and passion for learning has allowed others to follow her lead and enter a leadership role for the following years to come. She is truly deserving of this recognition. Scholarship Opportunities
It is a known fact college is expensive and the cost is rising. Do not let that deter you from applying for college. There are many opportunities to help you cover the cost of college. Scholarships are gifts of "free money" that do not need to be paid back, unlike student loans. Most scholarships can be awarded based on merit, which means that students earn them for having good grades, athletic talent, volunteering, or even for a certain demographic. Every year, hundreds of billions of dollars are awarded in scholarship money. There are many sources of scholarship, such as colleges and universities, military, individuals, communities, nonprofits, ethnic/historical organizations, businesses, religious groups, and more. Some scholarships are highly selective but many are not. The best practice is to apply for as many scholarships as possible and start early.
