Children's House Weekly Newsletter
Mrs. McLean, Mrs. Arleo, & Ms. Dana
Week of September 15, 2014
Our first full week was busy and fun! The children are quickly settling in while learning our classroom rules and routines. Making orange juice was the most popular activity this week. Is there a better way to start the morning than with a freshly squeezed glass of orange juice? This activity is a great way to strengthen the hand muscles in preparation for writing. Thank you for contributing to our classroom. We will need more oranges this week.
This week our theme will be All About Me. The children will start making their scrapbook book pages to contribute to our classroom scrapbook. If you have not already done so, please send in a few pictures for your child to add to the book. During our morning Circle Time, we will continue to sing songs to help the children learn how to identify each other by name. Making charts and graphs are wonderful ways to develop counting skills while helping children learn to sort and classify. We will make charts to see how much we have in common. For example, how many children have brown eyes, and how many have blue eyes? How many children are boys and how many are girls? How many children like chocolate ice cream and how many like vanilla? The possibilities are endless. During Kindergarten, the children will conduct friendly interviews with one another, asking questions such as What is you favorite color and What is your favorite food? It will be fun getting to know each other a little better. The books we will read this week include Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See, A Splendid Friend Indeed, and I Like Me.
Please Keep in Mind…
* If you have not already done so, please send in a extra change of clothes for your child to keep at school.
* School will be closed September 25th & September 26th.
