SEL Update
Next week we will continue to discuss integrity by learning about the importance of taking responsibility for our actions. Additionally we will practice the steps for making an apology.
In her book Thrivers, Dr, Borba tells us, “integrity doesn’t materialize from a one-time lecture, but from repeated discussing, emphasizing, explaining, modeling, expecting, and reinforcing.” She offers these lessons to help kids understand what integrity is and why it’s valuable. Remember the acronym TEACH:
T- Target your touchstones. Reflect on the virtues you deem most significant and want to nurture in your kids and create your family’s moral compass.
E- Exemplify character. Modeling is one of the best ways to boost children’s integrity. Ask yourself these questions: How would my child describe my character to someone else? Is it how I would like to be described? If my child only saw my behavior today what would they catch?
A- Accentuate with a motto. Moral mottos help kids define who they are as people, so create a family mantra. Brainstorm virtues such as honesty, kindness, fair, or others that mean the most to your family and then turn it into a catchy phrase.
C- Catch it. Help your child understand character by catching them living the virtue and then praise them for it using these two steps: Name the virtue, and then describe what the child did to deserve recognition.
REPORTING STUDENT ABSENCES:
Please report absences to the 24 hour attendance line: 951-302-6621 or email jpalumbo@tvusd.us
Teachers are not always able to let me know about an absence, please CC me on the teacher email or call the attendance line. Please remember to state the reason for the absence.
Check Infinite Campus, parent portal to ensure that your student's attendance is accurate!! It is much easier to fix it sooner than later. If there is a discrepancy, follow up with the teacher first to get it resolved.
LOST ITEMS
Our Lost and Found is already filling up! PLEASE mark your child's personal items (jackets, backpacks, water bottles, lunchpails) with their name and room number.
School lunch is free!
All students are able to receive a free hot lunch, please make sure your child knows whether they have brought a lunch or if they need to get one from our cafeteria.
