February 2022 Newsletter

A Note from Mrs.Soccio

Where did January go? Students have been working hard and getting back into their routines. All students recently completed benchmark assessments. Our teaching staff recently completed our Winter Data Day. During these meetings, grade level teams analyzed student achievement data in order to effectively plan for instruction. Teachers worked together to identify strengths and areas of improvement for their students.

We have received some inquires about Valentine cards. Valentine cards are welcome. As always, our school discourages any food items due to food allergies. Students will not be allowed to open any cards or items at school. Everything will be sent home and be opened with families.

Please be sure your child is dressed appropriately for outdoor play. We are making every effort to get students outside for recess and must ensure they are properly dressed for the conditions.

Please reach out with questions or concerns at any time.

Coming Soon! Surveyworks

  • SurveyWorks is a statewide survey sent out annually to students, families, and teachers to hear from Rhode Islanders directly about their experiences in our state's public schools.
  • SurveyWorks will be given to all students in grades 3-12, parents, teachers, support professionals and building administrators.
  • The Rhode Island Family Survey is for all parents to complete. Parents of students receiving special education services will receive a single survey that combines the Rhode Island Family Survey and the Special Education Survey.
  • More information will be sent home in the coming weeks.

Choose Love Movement for Schools- SEL Curriculum

Students in Prek-5 are fully immersed in the Choose Love curriculum! Students participate in a weekly lesson rooted in one of the four units: Courage, Gratitude, Forgiveness and Compassion in Action; all part of the Choose Love Formula. This month students will learn about the awareness of all four pillars.

The Choose Love calendar is below and was sent home with all students. It is our hope that this learning and small steps you can take daily is helpful for our North Scituate families to complete at home.

GRADE LEVEL CLASSROOM HAPPENINGS

Kindergarten

Ms. DeGuilio's students are learning about 2D shapes and their attributes. Students used pattern block and playdoh to explore how many sides and corners each shape has. Students took turns sharing their answers and writing them on the chart paper. When it was time to learn about a circle, students took out their playdoh for their own interpretation of what a circle is.

Many students dressed up as teachers for Career Day in Mrs. Anthony's class. Keep inspiring your students, Mrs. Anthony! “Education is for improving the lives of others and for leaving your community and world better than you found it.” —Marian Wright Edelman. Our school raised $446 dollars for the Wounded Warrior Project. Thank you to the owner of the Village Gas, for the generous $100 donation!

They were complimentary of each other's books. In the last photo, these students (a few others not pictured) completed ALL of Zearn Mission 3! Wow! There are many mathematicians in this class.

Watch out for these flashlight readers in Room 8. Students earn points through Class Dojo for homework and behavior. When students earn 150 points, they earn their first finger light. Then at 160, 170, 180, and 190 points they earn another until they are ROBOT READERS with the whole hand. This is a great way to incentivize students while encouraging respectful behavior and responsibility.
