Mrs. Grimmett's Class News

101st Day of School

We will be celebrating our 101st day of school on Friday, February 5th. This is the same day as spring pictures and class pictures. We will be taking our pictures first thing in the morning (so send the kids to school in the outfits that you would like them to wear for pictures). After we finish with pictures, we will allow the students to change into puppies if they bring something to change into. A note should have gone home on Friday.

Students are allowed to dress as dalmatians. They can wear white and black, paint black dots on t-shirts, or even dress in a dalmatian costume. We will be making hats for all of the students and plan to paint black noses on each student as well.

Valentine's Pary

We will be having our Valentine's Party on Friday, February 12th from 11-12. Pizza is on the menu! We will be getting some cheese and pepperoni. I have enough listed that each child should be able to have 2 slices. Please visit the sign-up page to pick an item to bring!

Drop Off/Pick-up with Car Rider

We have been asked to remind parents of the procedures for dropping off and picking up students.

If you have a student in 3-5 grade, you will drop off students (including younger siblings) in the back by the cafeteria. If you only have students in PK-2, you will drop off students in the front area by the office.

During dismissal, it is very helpful if you have your student's car rider number hung visibly from your mirror. If you have things on your dash, you might need to make sure the number is still visible. If you have lost your tag, you can write the number (with a marker so that it is easily seen) on a sheet of paper and use that.

If you need to change your student's transportation for the day, please send a note or contact the office before 2:30. This will ensure that the office is able to notify the teacher and student in time to make those changes.

We have started on a personal narrative. We will be working on it for several weeks, as we take it through the writing process!

Our fiction books turned out great! We are currently in the process of picking our favorite 5 to work with Mrs. Howard on a special project.

This week we are continuing to look at main ideas.

Please remember to sign your student's reading menus. Students should be reading 20 minutes every night! This not only helps with their fluency, but can help increase a child's vocabulary as well. If you do not have a lot of books at home, you can remind your student to visit the library when they are finished with their books, or you can get a library card at the Brazoria County Library near HEB.

We are continuing our investigations on soil and will begin looking at water!

We are returning to coins, with a focus on counting a collection of coins. We will also talk about skip counting as it will be very helpful in counting groups of coins.

Fact Frenzy

The students have started a Fact Frenzy! Every Friday during announcements, the students will be given 2 minutes to complete a sheet of addition or subtraction facts (sums to 20). This is in an effort to help increase fact fluency. The student from each class that correctly completes their sheet first will win a prize from Mrs. Flowers (slushie in the cafeteria)!

This will not be for a grade!

Social Studies

We are beginning our discussion on landforms. This unit will tie in well with the remainder our our science unit on "my world."

I am sending home information for an at home project. Please work with your child to help them complete these. I will work on a rubric for it this week and send home so that you will know how it will be graded. Remember that the student should be knowledgeable about the product, so they need to take part in creating it! It is their project!

Notes and Reminders

Please check and sign your child's communication folder each and every day.

School starts at 8:00, tardy slips are now being given at 8:01.

School ends at 3:25

First Grade is able to have visitors for lunch on Wednesdays!

Don't get tripped up at school! Practice tying those shoe laces! Safety first! :)

This is our PE rotation. Make sure that your child has the appropriate footwear on the days they go to PE.

Please also make sure that your students brings their library book to school daily. They are allowed to read them while waiting to enter class in the morning. They are also able to visit the library to exchange books on days that they do not go to the library during specials. They do need their library books on the days that they go to library!

Change to Dress Code

We recently received an e-mail noting a change in the district dress code for students.

· Solid color or school appropriate patterned dresses, skorts, skirts and jumpers may be worn. Dresses, skorts, skirts and jumpers must be appropriately sized and must be worn no shorter than slightly above the knee. Dresses must have sleeves or a shirt or jacket with sleeves must be worn with the dress.

The district school board approved a new calendar. Please note that our early dismissal days are now FULL days. Also, we will be getting out of school in May instead of June. Visit to see the explanation and find a link to the new calendar.
