LMS Hosts the LARPP Annual Meeting
Winter Conferences
Winter Conferences will be held on Thursday, February 25th and Monday, February 29th. Grade 5 students will have conferences in the gym and 6, 7 and 8 grade students will have "Student Led" conferences in their adviser's classroom. Conferences will be held from 3:30 P.M. - 7:00 PM. Please watch your email for sign up directions.

Grade 5 News...
Mr. McKechney's classes will be doing basketball and swimming in the next few weeks. Always two very fun and popular units for the students.
The fifth grade had their Valentine's Parties on Friday! Yum! Fun was had by all!
Language classes are finishing a unit on Verb Confusion and Irregular Verbs.
Social Studies we are finishing a "Struggle for America".
Grade 6 News...
In 6th grade language we are finishing up a punctuation and capitalization unit. Next students will begin researching a topic of their choice and writing a research paper and speech on that topic. Students will be able to collaborate with a partner on this if they choose.
In social studies students just finished learning about the lumber, flour and mining industries in Minnesota. It was fabulous that students got to explore the MN History Center on a recent field trip. Students recognized many things we have learned about this year as well as seeing some things that we have yet to learn.
Science: 6th grade students will be starting a unit on energy.
In 6th grade Reading, we have finished Unit 3: Proving Yourself. For the next four weeks, students will be working on a choice book group. Student work in small groups with a book they choose. In groups they will read and complete notes on the novel. After the book is completed, students will work on a presentation to share their book choice with their fellow classmates.

Grade 7 News...
Mr. Sussner's 7th grade PE class is playing floor hockey and basketball the next few weeks.
In 7th grade math, students are learning about percents and how to solve real world problems with percents. They just finished the math OLPA test which is a practice MCA test.
Mr. Sussner's 7th grade Health class is studying the human ear before moving into an in-depth study of the body systems.

Mr. King's social students will be investigating the era of social reform before the American Civil War. We will also dive into our American History March Madness competition.
7th graders just finished up reading the novel Woodsong by Gary Paulsen. They have completed 2 novels for quarter 3. The 3rd book of the quarter is a choice book. Students have also been working through parts of speech and will soon be starting poetry.
Mr. Carlson's students just finished floor hockey and start a basketball unit this week!
Grade 8 News...
8th grade Geography students are starting their European country projects.
Mr. Sussner's 8th grade PE classes are finishing floor hockey and beginning a basketball unit.
8th Grade Earth Science
We are finishing up our study of rocks and minerals. The students will begin digging into the layers of the Earth, plate tectonics, volcanoes and earthquakes.
Mr. Sussner's 8th grade Health classes are looking into stress management, identifying stressors in their lives, and will be choosing mental health disorders to research and present their findings to the class.
Eighth Grade English students are putting the final touches on their Poetry Portfolios which they will be sharing with parents at Student Led Conferences. Soon we will be writing Father of the Year Essays through a program run by the Minnesota Twins.

Math 8: We are finishing up a unit on functions. We will be creating Imovies using the important vocabulary from the chapter.
Advanced Math: We are finishing up a unit on linear functions. We are using Bubbl.us to create mapping diagrams of the important concepts from the unit.
