What's on your list?

If your family is anything like mine, you are scrambling for a few, last-minute gifts. Here are some suggestions:

BOOKS! Please be sure to include books in your holiday giving. Students need 30 minutes of reading at home every night, so surround them with books that will interest them.

GAMES! I mean good, old board games - the ones we played when we were young. Our youngest students can learn 1-to-1 correspondence (counting one space at a time) by playing Sorry or Candy Land. Older students learn how to make inferences - an essential skill for reading - by playing Clue (our 3rd grade students finished a mystery unit recently). Students learn to recognize patterns with Connect 4. There are many coding-type games out there, including those that use technology. Yahtzee is great for doing mental math.

MEMBERSHIPS! Consider memberships at the Milwaukee County Zoo, Discovery World, the Art Museum, or a nature center. Many of these have reciprocal memberships at other zoos and museums across the nation. This can be a great idea for a grandparent to gift to a family, especially if they live far away.

Holiday Sing-along

Every year, the students and staff gather before going home for Winter break for a holiday sing-along. Sometimes our students get confused and think that it is a concert - it is not. It is just a chance for the Lakeview family to share some holiday cheer in song. Therefore, we ask kindly that families do not attend the sing-along.

Smart Smiles

Did you forget to sign up for the Smart Smiles oral examinations that are happening at Lakeview this week? Click the PDF link below, print, and return all necessary pages. If you need a printed copy, please call the office on Monday and we will send a form home with your student. After Monday, it will probably be too late to request a form, so act quickly either way if you want your child(ren) to participate in Smart Smiles.

Lions ROAR! Recognize a staff member at Lakeview

Is there a staff member at Lakeview that you would like to recognize? Our PTO has set up an easy way for you to recognize anyone at Lakeview that is making a difference for your child. That could be a teacher, paraprofessional aide, secretary, food service, or custodian. There are so many people working together for our students! We encourage you to let the PTO know so they can pass on your compliments! Here is the link to the survey. (You are welcome to submit more than one!)
