Wood MS Library Exploratorium News

October 2015

The library has been a busy place to be whether before school, during lunches and after school. Students have been checking out books, playaways and working on their homework including their Article of the Week for reading class. There is an Article of the Week Tab on the library's homepage where students can find articles to print and use. The digital resources are password protected at home. Come buy the library to get the passwords. We also had our first lego lunch. Students made amusement park ride using legos. Finally, we have been hosting our fall book fair, September 28-October 2nd. There are a lot of great books and goodies. Some of our books are $1 or less. The library is giving away a basket of book fair goodies. Each time a person buys a book, their name gets entered to win. We will announce the winner on the morning announcements. If you missed the book fair, don't despair. You can purchase books online for a few days after. The link is on the library webpage. Any profit made on book fair will go towards the transformation of the library.

E Readers Are Available for Checkout

The library has available both Nexus Tablets that will checkout Overdrive Books and Nooks that will check out our partner, Bibliotech, books. Students will need a signed parent permission form to check out these devices. Permission forms are available in the library or can be printed from our library webpage. Devices are checked out for 3 weeks.

Overdrive and Bibliotech greatly expand our library's collection. If your student doesn't have a device to read an e-book, let them come check out one of ours and see how great it can be.

Think Tank Updates

The library has been so busy and booked by classes that there has been trouble having standard dates for Think Tank. Think Tank this year will be on a pop-up schedule, meaning it may not always be the same date or time. Our next Think Tank is currently scheduled for Tuesday, October 13th from 3:30 - 4:30. The task will be finger knitting. Look for a slime Think Tank the last week in October.

Our 3D printer is finally working. We will have a Think Tank dedicated to creating and printing something on the 3D printer. Stay Tuned.

20 Lone Star Book Challenge

The library is challenging every student to read 20 lone star books this year. There will be a celebration at the end of the year for students who meet or exceed the challenge. Check out the library webpage to get more information or to log in a lone star book.
