Washington Monument


The Washington Monument was a very important landmark in the 18th century. The Washington Monument was built between 1848 and 1884 as a tribute to George Washington because of his strong dedication and leadership. during the American Revolution. It was built in the shape of an Egyptian Obelisk, and made of granite, marble and blue stone gneiss. it stands as the tallest stone structure, and obelisk.

Robert Mills designed the Washington Monument. On Aug. 23 2011 the monument got damaged by the 2011 Virginia earthquake, with about 150 cracks

Importance of Washington Monument

The Washington Monument is made to honor the George Washington. They made it to show gratitude and respect. It currently stands at 555 feet and when it was completed, on December 6, 1884, it was the tallest building in the world. The congress funded this project on July 5, 1876 insuring that it would be a lasting contribution.
