HMS WIG (Wildly Important Goal)
Earned Off Documentation
Remember that there will only be 1 earned off day this school year. However, upload any and all workshops as you can use them toward CPE hours.
If you did workshops within the district, you should not have to enter any details. Most definitely check to see that it is showing in your workshops.
See me if you have questions.
Traffic Flow Map
The map has been emailed to all HMS parents, however, it can be found attached here as well.
We are excited about tomorrow and starting our 18-19 school year.

Staar Updates
The Texas Education Agency (TEA) is releasing the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR®) that were administered in spring 2018. The following STAAR assessments, including STAAR Spanish, are now available on the STAAR Released Test Questions webpage.
Grades 3–8 mathematics (April 2018 only for grades 5 and 8)
Grades 3–8 reading (April 2018 only for grades 5 and 8)
Grades 4 and 7 writing
Grades 5 and 8 science
Grade 8 social studies
Algebra I
English I and English II
Biology
U.S. History
In addition to test forms, answer keys and item rationales have been posted on this same webpage. TEA has also posted student expectations for these assessments on the STAAR Student Expectations Tested webpage and scoring guides on the STAAR Writing and English I, II, III Resources webpage.
Online versions of the 2018 STAAR released tests are now available through the STAAR Online Testing Platform under the Practice tab. Instructions for accessing the online platform for the first time are available at STAAR Online Testing Platform. For each STAAR online released test, a version with text-to-speech, content and language supports, and spelling assistance (where applicable) is available, and a version without these Personal Needs and Preferences (PNPs) activated is also available.
For Windows, Mac, and Linux, districts must uninstall the previous version of the STAAR Online Testing Platform secure browser and install the latest version. The updated secure browsers are available for download at http://www.TexasAssessment.com/technology/. If automatic updates are enabled, secure browsers will automatically update as necessary on iOS and Chromebooks.
Districts can now access Statewide Item Analysis Reports for STAAR assessments administered in spring 2018. In addition, Individual Student Item Analysis Reports and Item Analysis Summary Reports for 2018 are available in the STAAR Assessment Management System. Item Analysis Summary Reports will be available at the campus, district, and regional levels.
From Learning Technology: BISD Digital Citizenship Curriculum Phase 1
The Learning Technologies Department has been working to provide district monthly digital citizenship lessons based on the Common Sense Media Curriculum. We’ve taken the entire scope and sequence from Common Sense Media and distributed it evenly between K-12 (supplementing where necessary with other topic/grade-level appropriate content).
For Teachers - each grade level has a “Month-at-a-Glance” document that links to:
the lesson
all necessary resources
vocabulary
student “I Can” statements
alignment with ISTE Standards (per TEA)
discussion and writing prompts
suggestions for additional activities
and a school-home connection email/document/activity to share with parents
For Administrators - each (ES, MS, HS) has a “Month-at-a-Glance” document that links to:
an explanation of the monthly topic
weekly School Announcements (these are just suggestions, you are welcome to use them verbatim or come up with your own announcements)
NOTE: August has an announcement for each day (covering Chromebooks use) due to the rollout. The remaining months have one per week.
suggestions for Campus Activities for the topic
suggestions for Staff Meeting activities for the topic
suggestions for Administrator Modeling Opportunities for the topic
social media graphics to tweet from your campus and suggestions for posts that could be made throughout the month regarding the topic
school-Home Connections via Parent Link - emails/resources to share with parents regarding the topic (1 per month).
We are hoping that each campus will assign a content area (can vary each month - or can be done in Pride times) to share these lessons with their students. Almost all lessons are 15-20 minutes long (longer lessons can be broken up) and the additional materials can be used as warm ups or “I’m done, now what” types of activities. Our goal is to have every lesson taught during its topic month - but who and when is completely up to the campus so that the lessons work with your schedules and with any existing digital citizenship programs your campus may already be using.
It is our hope to continue to add to these documents each year so that every grade level at every campus has ample resources to keep the digital citizenship conversation going on their campus all year long so that our students will be able to explore, learn, and apply these important concepts.
We will be gathering feedback and suggestions regularly so that we can improve the resources/format as we go.
You can find the resources at this link - http://bit.ly/BISDdigicit
Each month’s link will go “live” one week prior to the first week of the month.
Note: We would like to thank Leighanne Arthur for her invaluable help with this project.

Treatment Agreement:
This is a collaborative pact created between teacher and students that focuses specifically on how they will treat one another in the classroom. The idea is to focus on how we treat one another, and not rules... it is not a rules agreement. It focuses on how we will treat one another based on different relationships in the classroom: Student Treating Student, Student Treating Teacher, Teacher Treating Students, and Everyone Treating The Classroom.PBIS- EXPECTATIONS
Please review our HMS PBIS Matrix with students this week.
The schoolwide matrix lays out the behavior we need in all settings across the school campus to create a safe and positive learning environment. The matrix is used to directly teach positive behavioral expectations and is posted as a visual reminder to students and staff. By developing, teaching and posting setting specific behavioral expectations, the stage has been set for providing specific positive feedback when observing students demonstrating the behavior on the matrix.
As a reminder, all PBIS/ Restorative Practices information, training, and resources are found on our bit.ly/hmsinfo and click on "PBIS/Restorative Practices".
The link below outlines student behavior expectations in the halls, cafeteria, classrooms, and restrooms.
