A note from Principal Walsh
Good Morning Carver Families!
It is always a great week at Carver, but this is definitely a cold week! Each month we are focusing on a different aspect of Carver CARES. February’s focus in A for Assertiveness. We talk about being confident and using our words to express ourselves during the month of February. Students are earning stars when school staff see them being assertive in a positive way. On your next visit to Carver, you will see these stars lining our hallway. It is a great reminder for our students to practice Carver CARES everyday!
I look forward to seeing you at the PTO meeting on Thursday night at 6pm in the Media Center at Carver! Thanks for letting us learn with your children everyday!

History
National African American Parent Involvement Day (NAAPID) started in 1996. It was the brainchild of Joseph Dulin, a longtime school principal in Michigan. He was attending the Million Man March in Washington, D.C. and was inspired by a speaker at the event who challenged the men in the crowd to go back to their communities and do more.
What is NAAPID?
NAAPID is a national call to action to get all families, particularly those of children of African
American descent, more involved in their educational lives. It is expected that this national
observance will open up dialogue among teachers, parents, and students, which will lead to a more conducive learning environment for African American students from kindergarten through college. National African American Parent Involvement Day (NAAPID) is a day for families to come to their child's school, see what their day is like and to support their child's educational future. Some of the goals of NAAPID are to:
- Promote parent involvement in their student's education.
- Address the serious achievement gap facing African American students.
- Promote and provide strategies for parents and students to take full advantage of the educational process at all levels of the educational system (preschool through college).
