Dear Parker Middle School Families,
As you are probably starting to notice, I routinely like to point out how we are living our core values of kindness, community, and personal best and over this past week, I have seen that on display. Just yesterday, our eighth grade students traveled to Boston for their memory-making Boston field trip. Students have been bringing in materials for the Kindness Kits, which are donated to the Pine Street Inn. Prior to leaving for Boston, students compiled the kits and boxed them up for delivery. A special thanks to Ms. Kim Peterson and the Parker Leaders who organize this drive every year. Students then boarded buses to Boston for a cruise aboard the Spirit of Boston and ended the day with a scavenger hunt in the city. From all accounts, the students and staff who attended had a wonderful experience - another example of community in action. And they couldn’t beat the weather!
Last Friday, the PTO held Parker Family Fun Night. It was so wonderful to see all the students and families who attended the event. I’ve truly been enjoying getting to know the Reading community of learners.
As we approach the end of Hispanic Heritage month, I wanted to reach out to Reading families to see if anyone of Hispanic heritage would like to share their stories. As we learned from last week’s all-school assembly, sharing stories allows us to build empathy and expand our perspectives and world view. If you are interested in sharing your stories, send me an email and I will highlight it in my newsletter next week.
The Reading Public Schools Food Services wants to hear from you. They are planning out their menu for November and would like you to share some feedback on what you would like to see on the menu. Please take their survey. I will also share this survey with students too.

Grade 8 students listened to a presentation from Essex-Tech today. The Wakefield Vocational High School will also visit soon - exact date TBD. More information on the application process for those high schools will be available soon.
iReady diagnostic testing begins next week. Individual teams have created schedules to administer the test so that the process can be completed as smoothly as possible.
Upcoming Meetings:
PTO - Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m.
School Council - Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 5:30 p.m.
Academics:
A friendly reminder, teachers routinely update grades in the PlusPortals. If you want to see how your child is performing academically, the PlusPortal is one way to access this information. If you have concerns about your child’s learning, please contact the team leader.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. Please see below for more important information and announcements.
Sincerely,
Rochelle
