Symmes Elementary has partnered with Collins Educational Services, to offer you and your children a summer enrichment program, designed to ‘bridge the gap’ between the end of school and the commencement of the new year. Studies have shown that over the summer up to 70% memory retention of the previous grade’s materials can be lost. A summer activities workbook will reduce and can eliminate this memory loss. The workbooks are designed to be completed over the summer, with the student working on only 2 pages per day! They review from the past grade level and preview the next grade level’s work. The curriculum-based activities include: reading, writing, math, science, social studies, fitness. FREE online companion, offers mobile apps, online games & interactive family fun from P-K through 4-5! Aligned with Academic Standards! These Summer Bridge workbooks are available from Pre-K through 8th grade. They are in full color and cost $14.99. Tax will not be charged, as orders will go through school. A flyer was sent home this week for you to order. Please make checks payable to Symmes Elem PTO. Orders must be received by April 21. Books will be delivered to Symmes. Any questions please contact Megan Boni at Thank you for your order!

Nature Trail + students + tech = new website!

The website for the Sycamore Nature Trail at Symmes ( has actually been up for a month or so but today marks the grand unveiling!

For years now, the 9+ acres of the trail behind Symmes Elementary have been available for all Sycamore students and the greater community to enjoy.

But, since Fall 2016, thanks to a grant from the Ohio EPA as well as parent donations, the students at Symmes have been collecting observational data using 30 tablet computers.

Test-drive our new website to see some of their efforts! There are interactive visualizations, tables, photos, and some environmental-themed games to try.

More will be coming. We hope to use this site to share what Sycamore K-12 students, teachers, parents, and community members have done and are planning to do on the trail.

Tell us what you think. Go to Contact us and share an idea!

Join us for the last coffee of the year. Karen Naber will talk about the big picture of how a gifted child may expect to “grow up” through the Sycamore Schools.

Also, did you know that there is a Cincinnati Mensa group? Did you know that it has a student division? Stephanie Bruner, Sycamore parent and coordinator of the Mensa Gifted Youth Program, will share a bit about the program and the enrollment
