Happy St. Patrick's Day!
Math: We'll review geometry this week and learn more about shapes and their attributes. Homework this week will center around our review of geometry. I'll be giving students various worksheets/pgs. from their book depending on what their understanding is of the concepts we're learning.
Reading: Students are beginning our storytelling unit this week. We'll be reading dozens of stories so that students can select one to learn from heart. This unit will take us 3-4 weeks to work through and will require some extra practice at home in the next few weeks so be on the lookout for more information from me regarding reading homework.
Language: We'll review writing we've done over the last qtr. and see where our strengths/weaknesses are. This week we'll focus on the skills we still need to work on to make our writing polished.
Social Studies: This week we'll begin to learn about the Arctic Region of Alaska.
Science: We'll be studying the rock cycle this week. We'll also participate in a winter survival field trip on Thursday.
Other items: I hope you had a great time over Spring Break and that students are energized and ready for the busy qtr. ahead of them!
I am still in need of a couple drivers for our snowshoe/winter survival trip this Thursday. We'll eat at the Wynn Center so students need a sack lunch and warm clothes on Thursday.
Students should be reading for their weekly reading logs. Our next book report is due April 28th. Students need to select an Alaskan survival story (either fictional or informational) to read. Eventually they'll be creating a diorama of their book. More information about the diorama will follow in the next couple of weeks.
SBA testing will occur the first and second weeks of April so it would be wonderful if students come to school ready to work, rested and fed those weeks. I'll be asking parents to sign up to bring healthy snacks the days of testing. We especially like protein rich snacks. We'll spend the next two weeks building up our stamina for test taking.
I am already scheduling many of our spring trips that are connected with our learning objectives for going across the bay April 30th-May 2 so the end of the year is getting busy fast! I'll need your support in order to offer a rich experience to our students.
Information about the spring Art Fair is going home today. Please look for the paperwork so you can help your child decide what they'd like to do for this year's art fair.
