SOAR Updates

Suicide Prevention Month

September is Suicide Prevention month and the Antelope Valley High School District is on a mission to prevent suicide by reducing the stigma attached to talking about suicide. Over the next month, through our Google Classrooms, we will share information, videos, and resources related to suicide awareness and prevention. We encourage you to view these resources with your child, continue the conversation at home, helping to break the stigma of silence.

Please visit for more resources on how to have these challenging conversations and how to better identify warning signs. Suicide is preventable; we are all key to prevention.

Fall Climate Survey

This is the LAST CHANCE for any students, parents, or staff who have not had the opportunity to submit feedback on the fall climate survey to do so now! This survey will close on Friday, September 18th. We thank you for taking the time to provide us with your valuable feedback!

Again, if you haven't done so already, please take just a few minutes to submit your feedback:

Meal Services

AVUHSD meals will be served from 11:30am to 1:00pm, Monday through Friday, at the eight comprehensive high schools. Meals will be provided to anyone 18 years old or younger. Even though this is the case, our school's funding and student fee waivers for exams and college applications are dependent on students qualifying. Please take the time to apply for the meal program by clicking on the link below -- this helps all of us!

Please visit to apply or renew your lunch application for the 2020/2021 school year.

Attendance has a direct correlation to student success. If you miss a high school class for an excusable reason, parents/guardians must call or email Mrs. Andrews to clear the absence: (661) 722-6509 / and follow up with your teachers for assignments. Students should follow up directly with college instructors in the case of an absence. Although we are not on campus, we are still responsible for record keeping. Please make attending both your high school and college classes a priority!

Tutoring/Additional Supports

Students currently have access to a variety of online tools through their PowerSchool portal. Make sure to click on 'Student Resources' in order to view online textbooks, Homework Help, and much more. Students should look out for virtual tutoring and study session information and opportunities provided by their teacher.

Remember, SOAR students have access to all AVC resources as well. For information on how to get connected with AVC's Learning Center for additional support, visit AVC's website.

Fridays at SOAR

This is a Tuesday/Friday week -- students will follow their Tuesday/Wednesday schedule this Friday, September 18th. These are also published on our online calendar or in the student handbook.

Don't forget to be a STAR!

STARs are self advocates, teachable, accountable, and respectful in the classroom, common areas, community, and connected online.

SOAR Stars are also life-long learners and self-advocates who solve the most pressing challenges through an unwavering pursuit of knowledge, innovation, and collaboration, becoming engaged and productive leaders in their communities.
