Middle School Math Reassessment Policy
6th Grade Math
This week I began with reviewing writing expressions and new vocabulary. We talked about terms, like terms, constants, and coefficients. On Tuesday I introduced the chapter 4 project. Students worked on the project through the end of class on Wednesday. On Thursday we reviewed for the quiz. I passed back the formative assessment from before break and reviewed how to show the process for solving one step equations. After this students were able to select practice for one step equations, or work with me in the back of the classroom on 2 step equations. We ended the week with a quiz on 4.1, 4.3-4.4.
Next week we will begin working with inequalities. We will begin the topic with writing and graphing inequalities (section 4-7). From there we will move into solving one step inequalities and graphing the solution (section 4.8 and 4.9). There have been several times that I assign watching a video as part of the homework. This will continue throughout the year. I have talked with the class about the importance of watching the video and taking notes. If your child is having trouble accessing the video please arrange for them to come to school right at 7:40 so that they can watch it in my room on one of the school computers.
8th Grade Math
This week we began with the Pythagorean theorem and its converse on Monday and Tuesday. Monday I provided direct instruction on using the Pythagorean theorem and its converse. On Tuesday there was time for questions and practice using the Pythagorean theorem and its converse to solve problems. Wednesday our focus was on percent error with a focus on percent error in measuring area and volume. On Thursday and Friday we reviewed concepts from chapter 3. The chapter 3 Test will be on Monday, December 7th.
Next week the plan is to begin chapter 4 (solving inequalities and absolute value equations and inequalities). There will be several times that a video will be assigned as part or all of the homework for the rest of this year. If your child is having difficulty with accessing or watching the videos please arrange for them to come to school right at 7:40 so that they can watch it in my room or in their homeroom on one of the school computers.
