WE ARE SOLD OUT! JOIN OUR WAITING LIST
December 14th to 22nd, 2015
The Preservation Hall Foundation invites you to accompany the Preservation Hall Jazz Band on their historic, first visit to Cuba. Join legendary New Orleans musicians for a landmark meeting between the people of Havana and this quintessential American tradition! The trip includes an in depth look at the city and great musical experiences highlighted by Preservation Hall performing the opening set of the 37th annual Havana Jazz Festival. You can be part of this unique and historic musical experience by joining us from Monday, December 14th to Tuesday, December 22nd, 2015. Produced by our friends at Cuba Tours and Travel, the leading Cuban cultural touring company, the trip is fully licensed and authorized as a “People to People” trip to Cuba.
Be Part of Musical History and see Cuba in the process!
This eight-day, seven-night trip is focused on accompanying the Preservation Hall Jazz Band to their major concert date at the Festival. In the process you will meet and get to know everyday Cuban people, go to the best and most innovative music venues, meet musicians and composers and visit artist studios. You will experience the wonderful architecture of Havana, dine at the best home restaurants (Paladares), and get to know the city and the people of Havana. You will be staying at the “Grande Dame” of Cuban hotels: The Hotel Nacional. All activities will be consistent with the US Government “People to People” General License.
It's now easier to visit Cuba!
Since President Obama liberalized “People to People” educational travel in January, Americans are allowed to travel to Cuba without much of the paperwork previously needed. This makes travel to Cuba infinitely easier. “People to People” travel is not tourist-oriented or self-directed but it is both rewarding and unique. It allows participants to visit a wide scope of organizations, institutions, and community projects that provide a deeper understanding of Cuba, its people and its culture. This trip includes a full time schedule of educational exchange activities designed to promote meaningful interactions between Americans and the people of Cuba.

The Preservation Hall Jazz Band
The Preservation Hall Jazz Band presents the music of New Orleans worldwide with over 100 tour dates annually, which have included performances at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, The Grammies, the United Nations Headquarters, and for every president from Richard Nixon through George at the White House and heads of state. The first commercial recording of the band, "Sweet Emma and her Preservation Hall Band" was made in 1964 at the historic Guthrie Theater and has been recognized by the Library of Congress' National Recording Registry as representing the "magical essence of New Orleans music." The band, in its successive forms of over 75 touring musicians, has released over 30 more LPs including the latest album "That's It!" consisting entirely of original material.
Preservation Hall Foundation
Allen and Sandra Jaffe established Preservation Hall in 1961 to preserve, perpetuate, and protect traditional New Orleans Jazz. The couple, and now their son Benjamin, have operated continuously for over 50 years the music venue, touring band, record label, and since 2011, the non-profit Preservation Hall Foundation. At Preservation Hall, the term “traditional” is taken quite literally. Our extensive education programming relies on the continual communal exchange of knowledge from the older generation to the younger. The teachers we employ are all master practitioners that play regularly at Preservation Hall. Their stories -- the way they learned music, the kind of musical community that helped to form them as artists and humans, and the role music plays in their everyday lives -- are all critical parts of the tradition and learning community that Preservation Hall perpetuates.
