Principals' Corner

Dear Families,

We are so excited to welcome you into our schools for our Parent/teacher conferences this month. We are confident that hosting conferences with all of you sets our scholars up for success. If you haven't scheduled your time with your homeroom educator, please reach out and be sure to get a time scheduled. We host conferences on Monday, March 13 and Tuesday, March 14.

Thank you to all parents who were able to attend our Black History Month Celebration. If you missed it, scholar work will be on display during conferences for you to enjoy. We look forward to hosting this event for years to come.

Please note, there is no school for scholars from March 10- March 14. Scholars return to school on Wednesday, March 15.

A note about cell phones: Please discuss appropriate cell phone usage with your scholars. Use of cellphone to record on the bus or school property is not permitted. This is for the protection of all scholars. Additionally, we ask that all scholars adhere to the Family Code of Conduct and turn in all electronic devices upon entering the building. We appreciate your support in this matter.

We want to take a moment to congratulate our grade 8 FAST Scholarship Applicants. We had 15 8th grade scholars apply. Moving forward in the process, we have two scholars: Aliyah Glenn and Laila Rose. They will be participating in interviews with a panel of judges this week. We wish them the best of luck!

Inclement Weather: Closings and Delays

CLOSINGS AND DELAYS

Closings:

Propel East follows the Woodland Hills School District for weather-related closings. Once the district informs us that they are closing due to weather, we will post it on all three major news channels and send an “emergency message” via Blackboard Connect.

Delays:

Propel East will open our doors at 8:00 AM if we are not closed or delayed. Students riding transportation provided by their home district should check for bus delays with the local district. If they are posting a 2 hour delay, your child’s bus will be delayed by two hours. Propel East WILL call delays when all of our feeding districts have delayed. We will post it on all three major news channels and send an “emergency message” via Blackboard Connect. When a delay is called, we follow a “2 Hour Delay Schedule” so students can still get all classes, although in shortened form.

School Bus Expectations and Reminders

Students who take a school bus are expected to act responsibly and respectfully at all times. The school takes a number of measures to facilitate responsible and respectful behavior, including but limited to: The Code of Conduct and Related Policies apply whenever a student is on a school bus. The Principal or his/her designee reviews expectations for appropriate bus behavior at all Family Orientations. Classroom teachers review expectations for appropriate bus behavior. The support specialist or an administrator meets each bus every morning to ensure appropriate student behaviors with the bus driver. The support specialist or administrator contacts any parent or guardian whose child had failed to act responsibly and respectfully on the bus and imposes the appropriate consequences for the misbehavior.

Children Must:

  • Be at the bus stop 5-10 minutes prior to the scheduled time.
  • Cross in front of the school bus when crossing a street.
  • Keep buses clean, sanitary, and orderly.
  • Obey bus drivers, as they are in full charge of buses and pupils while in transit.
  • Always ride in an assigned seat.
  • Never cause damage to the school bus, and report anything noticed to the driver. Any student disfiguring or mutilating a bus will be required to pay for the damage, and denied further use of buses.
  • Never get off the bus at any stop other than your assigned bus stop, unless you have written permission from your parent and the bus driver.
  • Never fight, scuffle, or incite any disturbance creating a hazard to the safety of others on the bus. Never use obscenities or profane language on the school bus.
  • Do not extend arms or head out of the bus window at any time. Since school officials do not ride the bus, we will act upon referrals given to us by the driver.
  • First Referral – Bus Discipline Letter
  • Second Referral – 1 day bus suspension
  • Third Referral – 3 day bus suspension
  • Fourth Referral5 day bus suspension (Parent Conference will be scheduled before the child is permitted to ride the bus.)
  • Fifth Referral 10 day bus suspension (Parent Conference will be scheduled before the child is permitted to ride the bus.)
  • Sixth Referral – Loss of bus privileges for the remainder of the school year. The above consequences are the bare minimum for each referral. School officials reserve the right to impose greater consequences depending on the severity of the situation.
