ESL Teacher Corie Ramirez
Corie Ramirez is an English as a Second Language instructor for the Union Adult Learning Center. She holds a B.S. in English from Northeastern State University and an A.S. in business administration from TCC. Ramirez is a certified ESL teacher here in Oklahoma and has been with UALC since March of 2019. Currently, she teaches the beginning literacy class and will be taking on a multi-level class for the UALC summer Encore session. She will also be joining the newest addition to the UALC program, the IELCE Workplace Certification team, in June to assist our ESL students in earning their Forklift and Digital Readiness certificates. Ramirez has a deep passion for teaching ESL and her teaching philosophy revolves around encouraging respect for language learning and intellectual achievement by stimulating individual curiosity both within language and culture. She believes in helping her adult students acquire knowledge of several foundations by applying language learning to logical and realistic foundations in order to guide her student's growth in their path to learning the English language.
HSE/GED Teacher Nancy Lisk
Nancy Lisk started teaching Adult Education while teaching in Skiatook in 2009. She has taught adult education with the Union Adult Education program at Skiatook, Tulsa Tech Lemley, Union Alternative, UALC, Broken Arrow, and Asbury. In all, she has enjoyed twelve years of working with adults helping them gain their high school diploma. She is retiring from adult ed at the end of May.
She retired from teaching in 2018 with 32 years of teaching secondary math and science at five schools: Wakita, Timberlake, Skiatook, Union, and Broken Arrow. She grew up in Louisiana, and has made Oklahoma her home for 47 years. She has always loved teaching math and trying to make students see how it is used in everyday life. Getting students to see that they can succeed and go on to other opportunities is something that she has tried to do.
