El Dorado Monday Memo
May 4th, 2020
#ToroFamily
Happy Teacher Appreciation Week everyone! As we have said over and over again throughout these past 50 days and few years, you all are ROCKSTARS and we are SO grateful for everything you do for our students and community. Thank you for everything you have done and will continue to do. I hope you all get shown some love this week and I can't wait until we get to celebrate together in person sometime in the future.
You will be receiving another form for this week's Student Engagement Audit. Thank you all for your input in our conversations around students who are not engaging. Please take a look at your grade level lists here. If there is a student on it who you have connected with please send us an email so we can remove them from the list. As we all continue to reach out to students, this list should get shorter and shorter. We are only looking for students who no one has had any contact with. We are going to be doing some home visits this week and really want to make sure we hit those students whom no one has heard from at all.
Attached here is the most recent Distance Learning update from the district. Please review as there are a few key updates and information regarding the upcoming month and the end of the year.
Here is the key text from the update regarding the 2020-2021 school year
- Per the Superintendent’s Friday Letter from May 1, 2020, after working with local officials, the County Office of Education and County Health, below is what we know so far:
- There will be additional mandatory best-practices and safety requirements for students and staff as well as our facilities when we return to school. This will require clear procedures, appropriate equipment, possibly new materials, and possibly additional staff.
- Based on information we have thus far from the Contra Costa County Public Health Department, with the expectation that there will be continued social distancing requirements in place in the fall, there will be restrictions as to the size of crowds and the number of students in each classroom and on school sites each day. Therefore, we are considering various options based on these guidelines and any other new guidelines we receive.
- MDUSD staff has already begun conversations and we are forming teams to develop various scenarios that will best meet the needs of all students and follow the required restrictions. Our planning teams are expected to include administrators, teachers, classified staff, parents, community agencies, and student input, and there will be a number of opportunities for feedback as we process available information and guidance from state and local health officials. If we are unable to return all students to our campuses at the same time in the fall, we will have the possibility of blended learning opportunities, which means, there could be a mix of on-site learning, while maintaining distance learning at the same time.
Grading Updates:
4th Quarter Progress Reports - The grading window will close on Tuesday, May 5th at 11:59 pm. All students in all classes will earn a Credit or No-Credit. If a student is in danger of earning "No Credit" then there will be drop down comment of - At Risk of No Credit. Additionally, please use the comments as appropriate to let students know how they are doing. Remember only students who have earned a D or F in the third quarter are eligible for a "No Credit".
We will be mailing home progress reports after the 5th.
3rd Quarter Grades: If you have made any grading changes for the third quarter, please notify, Emily by email (crosgroveemudsd.org) so she can update the grade. All changes need to be submitted by Friday, May 8th.
Lastly, if you didn't get a chance last week, ASP is asking us for their annual teacher survey to be completed in order to secure their funding for our students. Please click here to access the very brief survey. Thanks!

Updates for the Week...
I will be on campus on Monday, May 4th, from 11 - 1:00 pm handing out Chromebooks to students if you need anything. Please let me know if you are stopping by, all visits should be less than 15 minutes.
- 2020-2021 Scheduling - Gemma is working on the master schedule for next year. Please continue to remind our current 6th and 7th graders to register for their elective classes via Homelink. The window will be open through this week.
- All teachers are to begin inputting scores from assignments into Homelink. It is recommended to keep the scores at 0%, but important to have data on work completion/progress. We are officially Credit/No Credit for the 4th quarter.
- EOY: we are working out the details for End of the Year procedures including something for our 8th graders (don't tell).
Please don't hesitate to call, text or email as needed if you have any questions or concerns. I got to jump on some Zoom calls last week and it was AMAZING getting to see our kids. Thank you all for everything you are doing.
Stay safe, stay inside, stay well,
Chris
