Did you know?
We don't talk about Books video
Thank you Mx. Kochensparger for this fun video! It was a top-secret project (even the kids that posed didn't know what the video would BE, just that it was for a video that the whole school could see) based on "We Don't Talk About Bruno" from the movie Encanto!!! Enjoy :)
LUNCH CHANGES
As we continue to experience a downward trend in Covid case numbers within Worthington Schools attendance area, Slate Hill will be transitioning to utilizing our traditional cafeteria spaces for lunches starting the week of March 14th. As we have moved through the pandemic, elementary schools have used classroom spaces in addition to our cafeteria spaces. This has had an impact on social interaction between students as well as school staffing and operation. if you have any concerns or questions, please reach out to Mrs. Gulley at 614-450-5000.
Spotlight On .. . . .Mrs. Myers' 5th Grade Classroom!
Mrs. Myers's favorite thing about teaching 5th Grade is...everything! I love being in elementary school and teaching the leaders of our school. 5th graders have a great sense of humor and they are the perfect blend of independent and dependent learners. 5th graders are so excited to learn, they have thoughtful conversations and they make teaching so much fun!
Right now in 5th Grade (Math) we are working on....Multiplying fractions. Fractions are a huge part of 5th grade and students need to know how to add, subtract, multiply and divide with fractions and mixed numbers by the end of the year.
So far this year, students in 5th Grade have really enjoyed........our BizTown field trip, our end of the trimester celebrations, all the leadership opportunities they have around Slate (like kindergarten, office, library and SCLC helpers), and currently they are really enjoying getting ready for middle school by scheduling their classes, trying out band instruments, and finding out all about what middle school will be like. And, of course, we try to make learning as fun as possible with fun projects and exciting lessons.
This is my 3rd year teaching at Slate. I have been teaching for 14 years and I have taught 5th grade math for 12 of those years. I have taught at 4 different schools in my career and Slate Hill is by far the best place I have ever been. I love the staff, students and families and feel so blessed to be here.

PANORAMA SURVEY
Dear Slate Hill Families,
We thank you and your family for being our valued partners as we work together to educate the children in our district. As you may already be aware, building our well-being and social-emotional learning skills is an important goal for our school this year and every year. Over the next few weeks, students will participate in several exercises to better understand these concepts and to reflect on how they perceive these skills in themselves.
As we have done for the last four years, we will be asking for your child to reflect on his/her own mindsets and approaches to learning via an online survey. The survey shouldn’t take more than 20 minutes to complete and will be administered during a two-week window from March 28 - April 8, 2022.
We are partnering with Panorama Education, a third-party vendor, to support us in administering these surveys. The survey content will ask students in grades 3-12 to self-reflect on School Safety, Teacher-Student Relationships, Sense of Belonging, Rigorous Expectations, and Self-Efficacy. Our students in grades 6-12 will also be asked to self-reflect on two additional topics; Diversity and Inclusion and Cultural Awareness.
Student voice matters to us, and their responses will provide invaluable insights into their experiences in how we can improve and adapt our instruction to meet their needs. If a student doesn’t feel like they have enough information to answer a question, they will be able to skip the item altogether.
If you have any questions about the Social Emotional Learning (SEL) survey, please don’t hesitate to contact us in the office at 614-450-5000.
Respectfully,
Julie Gulley, Slate Hill Principal
