March Parent Newsletter

Manvel School 2021

A note from Principal Hiltner . . .

February was a COLD, but a HEALTHY month at MPS. We are continuing to follow our Health & Safety Plan, which can be found on our school website. Please continue to dress your children warm for school, and make sure to send TWO masks, one to wear at school, and a backup in your child's backpack.

March brings quite a few days off for students. Please see the dates below. You will be able to enjoy many three-day weekends in March with your family. It is hard to believe, but the end of our third quarter is on Thursday, March 18th. After that, that leaves us only 9 weeks left of this school year.

In this month's parent newsletter, you will find information about Preschool Screening, the MPS Book Fair, and the 2nd Annual MPS Spelling Bee. I have also included pictures of the many learning activities that have taken place over the past month, both in and out of school. The North Dakota State Assessment will be administered in a few weeks in grades 3rd -8th deemed mandatory by the State of North Dakota. There is information about the State Assessment in this newsletter.

This community continues to be an integral part of what we do, and we appreciate your support as we maneuver through this CrAzY school year! Please don't hesitate to reach out about any concerns, questions, or ideas you may have to help us make MPS a place where we continue to empower every student, every day! Happy March!

Mrs. Dub's Third Grade had some GREAT invention ideas that were showcased!

Ms. Fuller's class learned you can fill a ziplock bag with water and poke pencils through it without the water leaking!

Even on one of the coldest days of the year 🥶, our Middle School Students (6th & 8th grade) delivered Valentine’s & Candy to both Cancer Centers in Grand Forks. It is a great lesson in giving and helping others! We were even lucky enough to have Mrs. Schanilec help this year! ♥️♥️♥️ Thanks to our school families and the community for their contribution in making this day such a success!

North Dakota State Assessment for Math, English/Language Arts/Writing, and Science for Grades 3-8

March is the time of year for schools across North Dakota to take the North Dakota State Assessment (NDSA). Please look for information from your child's teacher. This year, instead of our 4th & 8th graders taking the Science Test in the fall, it will now be given in the spring with the other state assessments. Under the North Dakota Century Code, parents have the right to "opt-out" of the state assessment for their child. If you are interested in this option, please talk to your child's teacher or print the form under the "parents" tab from our school website.
