Welcome Back!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Spring Break and was able to find some time to rest and relax over break. We look forward to welcoming our remote and full in-person students back on Monday, April 5th. It is hard to believe we are in the HOMESTRETCH of the 2020-2021 school year. We look forward to finishing the school year on a strong, safe and healthy note.

Travel Reminders

Travel Guidance:

The District is following the CDC and IDPH's most recent guidance on international travel.

International Travel: Per the CDC and IDPH, anyone returning from international travel is required to:

  • Quarantine for 7 days and get a PCR test on days 5-7 with a return on Day 8 OR
  • Quarantine for 10 days if not getting tested with a return on Day 11

Note: The day you travel to return home is considered Day 0.

If you are traveling internationally, please connect with Mrs. Richardson, school nurse, to determine your child's return date to school and discuss the required documents needed.

Domestic Travel: There is currently no restriction when returning from domestic travel.

Please note that travel increases your chance of getting and spreading COVID-19 and staying home is the best way to protect yourself and others. Please continue to wear your mask, watch your distance, and wash your hands when around those outside your household.

Travel-Related Absences

  • Any absent/quarantined students due to travel will receive daily work through SeeSaw, Google Classroom, or print materials. No live instruction will be available.

Food Allergy Management Plan

As part of our goal to maximize social distancing while maintaining class sizes in our return to full in-person, we will expand the use of some spaces for lunch in Room 121. It is unlikely this room will be used for instruction, but we will continue to follow the D181 Food Allergy Management Plan.

Please know that all classrooms other than this room will be used for instruction only and no food will be allowed.

In compliance with the D181 Food Allergy Management Plan, no peanuts or tree nuts will be allowed in this room. If your student is eating in a lunchroom that is also a classroom, you were sent a separate message to inform you that your student cannot bring peanuts or tree nuts in their lunch.

Custodial staff will thoroughly disinfect tables, chairs, and high-touch surfaces following any lunch period. All students have assigned seating which will assist with making individual seats allergy-free spaces. If you have specific questions or concerns, please let me know.

Thank you to all who completed the CSCI survey. We had 50% participation, which exceeded the 40% needed. I truly appreciate you taking the time to give your feedback.

Surveillance Testing

As we return to full in-person school on Monday, April 5, one of the components that will add another layer of safety for our students and staff is our voluntary surveillance testing program.

As you know, asymptomatic children can spread the virus. Some children do not have symptoms when infected with SARS-CoV-2, and outbreaks occur when the coronavirus spreads silently through the community. Therefore, please consider signing-up for testing and taking advantage of our school’s quick and easy collection process. To sign up, simply log in to your Skyward account and click on “Forms.” We hope that this additional layer of safety, along with our other mitigation efforts, will help your child and our entire school community stay safe.

More information on Surveillance Testing can be found at and in the Surveillance Testing Information Booklet.

D181 Covid Dashboard

The dashboard is updated daily at 4 pm.

D181 Meal Pick-Up

D181 meal pickup for all families in the community (with children ages 0-18) will continue on Tuesdays at HMS and Thursdays at CHMS. Pickup is between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. The free meal packages include 7 days' worth of breakfast, lunch, and a snack.
