Message from the Principal
Hello parents,
Leaves are turning colors and the air is getting crisper. October is coming to a close and with that a number of exciting events are in store for Woodbury students.
Spirit Week for the Junior High will begin on Monday. Students are encouraged to participate each day in the theme to earn points for their homeroom. The homeroom with the greatest percentage of participating students will win a special prize. Themed days are as follows:
Monday: Pajama Day
Tuesday: Twin Day
Wednesday: Rainbow/Crazy Color Day
Thursday: Halloween Costume Contest - categories include scariest, cutest, and most original
Friday: Luau Day
On Wednesday afternoon - Oct 30 - the Junior-Senior High School is hosting our first ever Boo at the Woo: Woodbury's Family Fright Fest. This huge event is open to all Woodbury children 10 and under. Children will be able to wear Halloween costumes and walk through the Junior-Senior High School trick-or-treating. Pumpkin painting and a haunted tour will also be available. Kids must be accompanied by a parent; the entrance fee is a donated canned good that will go to the local food bank.
Fall sports teams are entering playoff tournaments. The girls soccer team will face Buena Regional High School on Monday in the Group 1 South Jersey bracket. The boys soccer team will travel to Audubon to take on the Green Wave on Tuesday.
Woodbury is also hosting a free flu clinic Monday afternoon in the Gold Cafeteria from 4:30 - 6 pm. If you are a Gloucester County resident or school personnel, come on down to get protected for the winter flu season.
Good luck to the Thundering Herd football team as they take on Lindenwold tonight!
Striving to bring out the best in every student,
Dr. Vivadelli

Woodbury's Band is 'Marching' on Up the Leader Boards
Starting way back in the summer time, Woodbury's Marching Band has been spending countless hours harmonizing, choreographing, and fine-tuning routines that are knocking down the competition. From the visual effects with the color guard, to the storytelling, to the technical aspects of the music they are playing, our students are accomplishing impressive feats! Just last week, the band competed in Unionville, PA securing 2nd place in their category with a score of 80.60. The dedication the students put into their craft is amazing. Also, the time and effort the band directors, assistants, volunteers and parents provide to support the band is boundless and ever appreciated. Keep rocking out!
Remaining Competitions:
White Hall HS PA - 10/26/19
Vineland HS Championship - 11/2/19
Cavalcade Championship - 11/10/19
Salem & West Cape May Parades - 12/7/19
A Peek in Ms. Comer's Classroom
Here Algebra II students are using the new Pearson EnVision AGA software. The software provides an assessment after each lesson. This assessment automatically assigns each student remediation or enrichment depending on their individual results. This helps fill in any gaps or difficulties the student might be having, and provides high performers a chance to show off their skills. Another tool that Woodbury uses to be a leader in personalizing education!
Project IMPACT
"The mission of IMPACT is to increase the representation of males from racially and ethnically diverse backgrounds in teaching and respond to persistent opportunity gaps faced by young men from diverse backgrounds. Many of the student participants will come from underserved environments and will want to utilize education to contribute to the socioeconomic and educational transformation of these communities. IMPACT focuses on incoming freshmen at Rowan University and provides resources and supports as they persist through their college career. IMPACT participants are high achieving students who have demonstrated a commitment to academic excellence and community engagement."
Downtown Painting
Ms. Cook’s art students painted the store fronts in Woodbury on October 18. This is an annual tradition so please take a look at their creativity as you pass through town!

WOODBURY, N.J. (WPVI) -- A South Jersey school district is tackling child hunger in a different way.
Outside the Woodbury Junior-Senior high school Tuesday morning, students and volunteers unloaded fresh food for their monthly mobile food pantry.
The concept was approved by the school board last month, and partners with Inspira and the South Jersey Food Bank to bring fruits, veggies, meat and sometimes personal care products to those students who may not otherwise have access to those necessities.
"Healthy students with healthy meals really play a big part in their educational learning so to impact the families and provide this food, really helps our students grow and learn better in our district."
The mobile pantry also has experts on hand to help kids develop healthy eating habits.
This was the second of 10 mobile pantries for the school year.

How long you have been at Woodbury: 1st year
1. What is your "go to" song for the journey to school?
My go to song on the way to school would be the sound of a person’s voice via an audible book or a podcast…haha. Nerd alert! I love to listen to anything that will help me be a kick butt human.
2. Do you have a favorite saying or quote that you try to live by?
I have two favorite quotes. One is very simple, “everyone has a story” and the other is, “giving is the antidote to emptiness.”
3. What is one of your hidden talents?
One of my hidden talents is decorating. I love to take a space and transform it into a place you never want to leave.
4. What are your "trapped on a desert island" books or movies?
If I was trapped on an island I would probably choose music and my audible library over movies. I NEED music in my life, especially for my workouts. I could not pick one book. The whole library is coming with me. (again mostly self improvement books)
5. If you could take your students on a field trip to anywhere in the world, where would you take them?
If I could take my students on a field trip anywhere I’d take them on “The Ellen Show.” (Ellen DeGeneres) I would ask Ellen if we, as a class, could go around the world gifting grieving parents and children large amounts of money to use in whatever way they need. I think it would be awesome for our students to experience the feeling of GIVING. What an awesome opportunity to change lives in such a beautiful way. It will happen one day. I will manifest it. =)
6. What is one piece of advice you would give to your students?
One piece of advice I would give to my students is, “Always understand that we, as humans, all have a story and we are all hurting, even the adults. WE JUST WANT TO BE HEARD. Let’s offer space, kindness, forgiveness and love to each person we meet. BOOM! The world would be better…BE YOU BOO!
PS: I taught at Rancocas Valley Regional HS (9th-12th grade Health/Fitness) for 14 years and I just started at the WOO =) this year. I am teaching all levels in Health and P.E. I am pumped to be here.
Music for tomorrow:
“Look Up Child” Lauren Daigle
“Hundred” Khalid
“Tomorrow Never Comes” Zac Brown Band”
Boo at the Woo - Woodbury's First Annual Family Fright Fest - Wednesday, Oct. 30
If you have a desire to help organize this type of endeavor or have any connections with organizations that might be able to donate candy/decorations etc., please contact Mr. Howey at dhowey@woodburysch.com. We could use your help/expertise!
This is a fantastic way for our students to give back to our district elementary kids in a fun way! Please spread the word!
