Message from MISD Communications about School Safety
To the Mansfield ISD Community:
As students, parents, staff, and members of the MISD community, we are all grieving with the families impacted by the recent shooting in Florida. Our hearts go out to the Broward community, and they are in our thoughts and prayers.
We understand that such events cause anxiety and worry across our country, as well as in our very own community. Please know that the safety and security of our students and our staff members are our highest priorities, and our school board has approved measures to enhance security and safety at all campuses.
Some of the security measures currently in place are:
- Secure entry vestibules at all campuses.
- Mandatory ID badges at secondary campuses so that visitors are quickly identified.
- Bus tags for our youngest learners so that we may ensure the safety of our students who ride school buses.
- Regularly practiced, mandatory emergency drills that include procedures for lockdown, fire, and tornado.
- An anonymous tip line for parents, students, and staff to report suspicious behavior. The tip line is monitored, and tips are immediately investigated.
- Surveillance cameras at all campuses and departments so that staff can monitor district grounds.
- Panic buttons strategically located throughout campuses and departments that immediately alert our MISD Police of emergency needs.
- A state-authorized MISD Police Department with highly trained, dedicated officers. Our PD is fully authorized by the state of Texas, and our officers regularly train to respond appropriately (with force if necessary) to emergency situations.
Please know that you, your student, and our staff are great safety resources for us as well. We have procedures and protocols in place to investigate tips or concerns, and we do take every one seriously. Please remind your children to report anything that looks suspicious to them, and call us if you have concerns.
If you have specific concerns or questions related to your child’s campus, please contact your principal. I trust them completely and know how much they care about the safety of their students and staff.
Sincerely,
Jim Vaszauskas
