Egg Harbor Township High School
Week of October 24, 2021
A Message From Our Principal
Greetings,
Last Friday’s Pep Rally was awesome! Teachers, students and teams had a great time outside. The weather was perfect! And the Field Hockey team won the rights for the Spirit Stick! At Friday night's football game our Homecoming Queen and the Court were announced. Congratulations to the 2021 Homecoming queen Destiny Randolph and her Court!
Saturday, October 23, we had the Homecoming Dance. Students were checked in and wore masks into the gym. Students were permitted to take masks off while dancing and when sitting down to eat. All other times they wore masks and were reminded to wear the masks. Students were very compliant and respectful. As they left, many said “Thank you!”. Thanks to Mr. Bell and Ms. Delcher for doing a great job! Thanks to all who chaperoned and helped to make the dance a success.
On October 26, 2021, Ms. Connor met with a group of students to begin looking over the High School dress code and possibly making revisions. In early August, it was discussed with the High School Administration to look at changes to our current dress code policy. In early October, Ms. Connor invited 9 students to be a part of the reform. She challenged them to look at other schools' dress code policies and return on November 8 for the next meeting with some ideas and suggestions to help our students be successful.
On Tuesday, October 26, The PSAT test was administered to all grade 11 students. It was completed in time for the second lunch period. Great job Juniors! Thanks to our Guidance Department and all grade 11 teachers for their help in the administration of this assessment.
On October 28, the High School had the Fall Noche Latina Night. It was once again well attended by our Hispanic community members. Thanks to Dr. Schreiner, Ms. Dilks and the rest of our staff for the welcoming environment and the great information shared with the parents, not to mention the wonderful food!.
Congratulations goes out to our own Ms. Tiffany Miller, who has been inducted in the Rowan University Athletics “Hall of Fame,” for her outstanding accomplishments with Softball. In 1997, she was hired as a Health and Physical Education teacher and coached varsity softball until 2017.
Rutgers is once again offering summer enrichment for students from Pre-k to grade11. See the flyer below for more information.
Ground has been broken for the new athletic fields. It’s exciting to see the progression each day as I drive into the school. The fields will be located adjacent to the main parking lot in the front of the school. Can’t wait to see the finished product!
A few reminders…. We have a Fall Break for the week of November 1 through November 5. That’s right, the whole week we are off from school. Remember that clocks get turned back on November 7 at 2 AM! Don’t forget or you will be late for school on November 8.
Have a wonderful Fall Break!!!! Stay safe, be well, continue to dream of the possibilities ahead of us, be happy and smile at someone!
Ms. Connor

STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT
STUDENTS OF THE WEEK
Nominee: Yancy Lopez
Nominated by: Mrs. Bertino
Yancy was quick to volunteer her translating skills when I needed help communicating with a lost student. She not only translated for us, but then happily escorted the new student to guidance to get the help she needed.
Nominee: Mathew Del Rio Cruz
Nominated by: Mr. DeStefano
Mathew has gone above and beyond to help new ELL students acclimate to the class without ever being asked to do so. He has helped translate, explain information, and overall make new students feel more comfortable and at home in the class. When a new ELL student entered our class on her first day, Mathew called her right over and began introducing her to the class and explaining what needed to be done. I don't know what I'd do without his help!
Choral Arts
Congratulations to senior Sheikh Mahmud (top) who successfully auditioned for the NJ All State Treble Chorus!
Kudos also to junior, Jenna Johnston (bottom) who was selected by audition, for the NJ All State Mixed Choir!
We are very proud of and impressed by these talented students. Both Sheikh and Jenna are members of Egg Harbor Township HS Choir under the direction of Mr. Richard T. Tinsley II
Dia De Los Muertos
Students studying French are learning that Day of the Dead is also celebrated in Haiti. It’s called Fet Gede. Stop by the French hallway in upstairs C-Wing to view this beautiful display.
Mrs. Delaney's Spooky Labs
Fashion II
Mrs. Tucci’s Fashion II students brought the Halloween spirit and creativity into the classroom as they created their version of Tim Burton's classic Edward Scissorhands themed bulletin board,

Ms. Miller Inducted into the Rowan University Athletic Hall of Fame
On Saturday October 24, 2021 EHT HS very own Tiffany Miller was inducted into the Rowan University Athletic Hall of Fame. Ms. Miller was a standout on the softball team from 1994-1997. As an outfielder Ms. Miller was recognized as an All American twice, when she earned third-team honors in 1995 and second team honors in 1997. A two-time All-Region selection, Ms. Miller was named to the All-NJAC First Team in 1995.
Ms. Miller also remains one of Rowan's school leaders in stolen bases, holding the Prof's record for steals in a season with 48 in 1997, and in stolen bases per game with a 1.2 average during the same year. Her posted stolen base percentage of .943 during her career, remains the best in Rowan history. She also tied the school record by twice stealing five bases in one game.
After attending Rowan Ms. Miller joined the Egg Harbor Township School District physical education department where she coached softball for several years. Ms. Miller celebrated at a brunch hosted by Rowan University on Saturday. She was surrounded by family and friends who have supported her throughout her athletic career. Congratulations to Ms. Miller!

It's October Awareness Month!
Addiction DOES NOT Discriminate!
A drug can be defined as a mood or mind altering substance. Alcohol is a drug. Nicotine is a drug--even though they're both legal.
The difference between substance abuse and addiction is as follows:
Substance abuse means using a substance, legal or illegal, in the wrong way.
Addiction, or chemical dependency, starts out as abuse, but the use becomes so powerful that before too long the user loses control. NOONE ever starts out with the intention to become chemically dependent. It CAN and WILL happen to anyone.
The High School has adopted a new bullying-prevention program for this school year!
#DAY1--a staff and student-led philosophy that will serve to foster a building-wide atmosphere of kindness and inclusion.
This program was started a few years ago in Bergen County by the Tyler Clementi Foundation and has gained momentum throughout the state and country for use in schools, community groups, workplaces, and sports teams. We even have 3 of our own students who were selected by the foundation as leaders for this initiative!
The premise is simple: the adults in the building make a “declaration statement” about behavior that is expected, as well as behavior that is unacceptable, and we all pledge to conduct ourselves accordingly. This includes seeking help when we witness unacceptable behavior occurring.
This notion is called being an #Upstander.
Has your student taken their #Upstander Pledge yet?!?
Have them sign into their school account and click here! 😊
If you'd like more information on #Day1, please go to: https://tylerclementi.org/day1/
