Trussville Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting Dates Announced...Save the Date and Join the Fun!
For immediate release
TRUSSVILLE, AL – This year’s Christmas tree lighting at Trussville’s West Mall will be a separate event held the night before the Trussville Christmas parade, as announced by The Trussville Area Chamber of Commerce (TACC). The tree lighting event will be held on Friday, December 7. There will be Christmas carols, vendors with Christmas activities and snacks, and more. Santa is also expected to attend. The event will be from 6 to 7 p.m., with the tree lighting at 6:30.
Those who attend the tree lighting are also invited to bring to the event a new unwrapped toy for the Trussville Fire Department’s annual toy drive.
Trussville’s annual Christmas parade will take place on Saturday, December 8, at 3 p.m. through historic downtown Trussville. The parade’s presenting sponsor is Amerex Corporation.
Grand marshals for this year’s parade are the original Hewitt-Trussville Highsteppers, who first took the field during halftime at the 1968 HT season opener at Leeds. The legacy they established 50 years ago has since paved the way for hundreds of young women to participate in dance lines, not only at Hewitt, but at other area schools as well. A+ Tire & Auto Repair is the grand marshal sponsor.
Walking entries in this year’s parade will be limited to the HTHS band and the Boy Scouts carrying the flag. “Our parade has really grown—last year almost 100 entries—and it takes a good while for the procession to make it to the end of the route,” said TACC Executive Director Diane Poole. “We hope to speed up the parade a bit by reducing the number of walkers. We do invite all those who previously walked in our parade to get a vehicle to ride in and come join in the fun.” Santa will be a much-anticipated personality at the end of the parade; entries are not allowed to include Santa. The forecast calls for a 100% chance of ‘snow’ sponsored by Trussville Gas & Water.
The Zamora Shriners, always a special part of the parade, will again be featured. Central Alabama's Temple of Shriners International, the Zamora Shriners are a Masonic fraternity based on fun, fellowship & helping children.
Prizes will be awarded for the best decorated floats. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place entries will receive $100, $75, and $50, respectively, and will be recognized at the Chamber’s December luncheon. The float competition is sponsored by Brik Realty.
Other fine Christmas parade sponsors are the City of Trussville; Birmingham Coca-Cola;
Bryant Bank (stage sponsor); and silver sponsors Amari Law Firm, GR Manufacturing, St. Vincent’s East, Stewart Facility Services, and Trinity Contractors.
