Gladiator News
Dr. Hector P. Garcia Middle School
October 23-27, 2017
Our attendance committee recognized over 600 students for perfect attendance the first grading period! Sticky fingers and sugar coated lips filled the building as students enjoyed a glazed doughnut as their reward. Attendance is an important factor in academic success, so thank you for ensuring your child is present. Our committee members go out of their way throughout the school year to recognize students for being at school.
In addition to the activities listed above we had Creepy Cafe, football, volleyball, alternate schedule activities/lessons, Friday night our 8th grade band students performed with the Brandeis band, and Saturday were region Choir auditons!
We ended the week with Gladiator Games and a variety of other learning opportunities for the students. Gladiator Games raised $22,175!! We are so grateful to the business sponsors and community support. All the money raised goes into our classrooms. In addition to Gladiator Games, students heard a presentation from our feeder high school Student Council students on leading a healthy drug-free life to kick off Red Ribbon Week. FBI agents spoke to our 7th and 8th graders on the importance of cyber safety and making good decisions online. Our 6th grade students heard an anti-bullying message from the 13th Floor titled "Don't Be A Monster." (Thank you to PTA for sponsoring the presentation!) They also had classroom lessons on drug awareness and cyber safety. Be sure and ask your child about their day! Again, thank you for supporting our school.
