Let's Take a Look at a Blackboard Discussion
First: Click here to watch this video about the Lake Peigneur disaster.
Second: Then, click here (http://padlet.com/Mikawho/Lake) to post one question you have that relates to this disaster.
Third: After watching the video, create a topic and title it, "Lake Peigneur Disaster" and answer the questions below using complete sentences.
1. Briefly explain what happened and tell why you think it happened.
2. What economic and environmental impacts could this disaster have on the community around Lake Peigneur. Provide supporting evidence of your response.
When you have completed your response, go back and read what other's have posted and rate their response based on the depth of their response.
Three Steps for Improving Teacher Questions
1. "True discussion occurs where there is no "leader."
2. "...break your class up into groups of four or five students, so they can then discuss the issues."
3. "...prepare the questions you want to ask as an integral part of the lesson."
4. "...design the questions so that they scaffold from cognitive difficulty levels of easy to hard"
