Permenter Longhorn Check-In
Week of September 26 - September 30, 2022
Message from the Principal
We have concluded our first grading cycle of the school year. Collaboration between the campus and families is a key element in scholar success. Please be sure you are checking grades regularly in Skyward, ensuring your scholar is submitting missed assignments and taking advantage of any and all re-do/re-test opportunities for failed assignments and reaching out to teachers with any clarifying questions.
To date, our scholars have taken two sets of assessments to determine their achievement in an area as well as obtain a baseline measure of where they are academically. Those assessments are the NWEA MAP as well as the first DCCA for the year. Please ask your scholar about their performance on either of those instruments.
Some reminders & resources:
- For those unable to access our HB 4545 Webinar, the recording can be accessed here. This information is relevant for anyone whose scholar(s) did not pass one or more of the STAAR assessments given in the 2022-2023 school year.
- For families who are having difficulty accessing STAAR scores from the previous year, information was sent 6/13/2022 from the CHISD Accountability and Assessment Department. Scores are available on the Texas Education Agency Parent Portal. You can use the parent portal to review your scholar's scores. If you do not have your scholar's unique access code needed, the parent portal can provide the information once you supply the scholar's first name, social security number and birth date information.
- This week is GEAR UP week for the entire district. Please be sure to view the information below carefully. Scholars are allowed to wear jeans in honor of the various dress days, but they must still be in dress code and not wear any prohibited items such as athletic bottoms or hats. Also if denim shorts are worn, denim shorts must be the appropriate length.
- Continue to be mindful that there is no on-campus supervision before 8:15 AM or after 4:45 PM. Please ensure your scholar is not on campus outside of those time frames in the best interest of their safety.
- We will host an in-person Open House this Wednesday, September 28th, from 6:00-7:30 PM. Please attend to learn information about our accountability rating, your scholars' curriculum objectives for the year, opportunities for parent involvement through All Pro Dads and PTSA, receive support for understanding Skyward & Schoology from a parent perspective, and ways for your scholar to get involved through campus activities and organizations.
- Scholars attending any athletic event hosted on any CHISD campus must be accompanied by their parent/guardian and wearing their school-issued ID badge. This includes games held at Permenter.
- There is an interest meeting Thursday, September 29th @ 6PM in the cafeteria of the Lacey Enrollment Center for all females in grades 4th - 8th grades interested in joining the CHISD Hilltop Divaz Step Team.
- Mrs. Dawn, is our 6th grade assistant principal and 8th graders with last names A-L.
- Mr. Linthecum, is our 7th grade assistant principal and 8th graders with last names M-Z.
- Please don't forget about our PTSA membership drive. The membership and Longhorn bundle can be found online here.

Information on ID Badges
Scholars' ID badges must be visible at all times and not in book bags, pockets or underneath clothing.
Scholars' ID badges must be replaced immediately when lost and/or damaged beyond recognition
If a scholar loses/forgets/breaks their ID badge, they must purchase a temporary ID badge for $1 or purchase a replacement for $5.
If scholars do not have the funds to purchase a temporary ID badge they may receive up to 3 temporary badges on credit, but are still required to pay for them before receiving a 4th temporary badge. After the third temporary badge, students must pay $4.00 for the previous temporary badges along with the 4th temporary ID badge. This charge will be recorded as an obligation until the amount is paid. At this time, obligations can be paid in person. Soon, this obligation will be available to be paid online via the My Payments Plus portal.
When a replacement is required, students must report to the front of the building in the morning to receive a temporary/ replacement ID badge. They will receive their printed replacement later that day if they have purchased one.
Parents will be contacted via phone each time a student doesn’t have the funds to pay for their badge.
Students will receive 1 day in Restorative after receiving 3 temporary badges on credit (if they haven’t paid for them). The scholar will continue to receive 1 day in Restorative until they have the funds to pay for the ID badge(s).
If parents are unable to pay due to financial reasons scholars will be able to complete community service on campus to pay for the badge. The school will evaluate this accommodation on a case by case basis.
Questions? Please contact Assistant Principal Mrs. Dawn via email.
Lunch Reminders for 2022-2023
