The Wildcat Way theme this month is Kindness. The school kicked off Kindness Month with an assembly. As part of that assembly students shared ways they could share kindness - respecting one another, helping others, and making friends, among other ideas.

The staff is seeking family support to create the longest kindness chain EVER! Every time students do an act of kindness they may add a link to Sprague's whole school chain! Let’s see how long we can make our chain by the end of year!

Acts of Kindness can take place at school and at HOME! We are sending home the worksheet so students can fill out links at home! Cut out a link, write down the act of kindness, and color the link. After students fill out their ink, remind them to bring them to school and give them to their teacher!

Kindness keeps us connected, just like a chain!

We are bringing back our yearbook cover art contest this year to provide an opportunity to include student work in the book! This year's yearbook theme is The Wildcat Way.

If your child would like to participate, they should create a vertical (up and down) design on an 8.5"x11" piece of white printer paper. Please see past yearbook covers above.

We encourage you to have your child use LOTS of color to make their drawing pop! The design must include:

• The theme: The Wildcat Way

• The words: Laura B. Sprague School

• The year: 2022-2023

• Student's first and last name

• Student's grade level (Kindergarten, first-grade, or second-grade)

Before turning in the artwork, please make sure it shows all details and is clear enough to be placed in the yearbook. Do not fold your child's entry. All entries are due by Thursday, Feb. 16. There are several ways to turn in the yearbook artwork.

1. Scan at 300 dpi and email to llenzini@d103.org.

2. Drop off the artwork at the Sprague School office.

3. Mail your entries in a large envelope (unfolded) to Sprague School: Yearbook, 2425 Riverwoods Rd., Lincolnshire, IL 60069.

Sprague School is excited to share that we are planning our first school-wide Read-A-Thon! Our ultimate goal is to fund a permanent StoryWalk for our school. We hope to install the fixtures around Sprague School property and change out the stories a few times a year. The StoryWalk would be available to classes during school hours and to our community outside of school hours, as well! Please visit this website to learn about StoryWalks. In March, students will track reading minutes and we will work together to raise funds in order to work toward our school goal. More info will be shared on this soon.

It is important during snow and cold weather months to have children dressed appropriately for outdoor recess with gloves, hat, boots, coat, and snow pants, if needed. Students cannot play in the snow if they are not dressed properly. Remember to label items so they can be returned if they are misplaced.

• Students must wear coats, boots, snow pants, and snow gloves for the weather.

• Students can't throw or eat the snow.

• If students do not have boots, they must play on the blacktop.

If the combination of temperature and/or wind chill is 6 degrees Fahrenheit or above, students will go outside for recess. This guideline falls within the "safe" category for being outside for 30 minutes and allows students to go outside more frequently in the winter months. Please see the wind chill chart from the National Weather Service for details.

Families, please join us for a Valentine Dance that includes a DJ, craft, games and a professional photographer! Tickets are $10 a child. The ticket includes entry to the dance for one student and two adults. Each additional Sprague sibling is $5. Water and snacks will be available for purchase. Cash only please. Join us on Saturday, March 11, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the school gym as our Sprague students showcase their talents through music, dance, magic and more! In addition to performing, second graders are also welcome to sign up to sign up to Emcee this fun event. Students should register their act and performers no later than Feb. 17. Attention all job seekers! Lincolnshire-Prairie View District 103 is hosting a job fair on February 9, from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the District Office, 111 Barclay Boulevard, Lincolnshire. This is a great opportunity for those individuals interested in working in the district to apply, interview for positions, and learn more about working in District 103 now and in the future.

The Learning Fund Foundation has been an active supporter of our D103 school district for many years providing STEM programming, classroom audio systems, and the establishment of the Dawn Anderson Scholarship awarded to a Daniel Wright graduate. The Learning Fund Foundation is a registered 501 (c (3) not-for-profit educational foundation and your donation is tax deductible.

Math-Aid is a completely free math tutoring program that aims to help students who need extra help in mathematics. Sessions are conducted by high school sophomores or older who are in advanced math courses. Please fill out the Math-Aid interest form.

The Village of Lincolnshire is seeking your opinion on what it does well, what it can do better, and the services residents/community leaders value most! By taking 15 minutes to complete this survey, you’re guiding village wide decisions about public safety, water service, economic development, road maintenance, special events, preservation of natural spaces, and more. Paper copies are available at Village Hall or the Vernon Area Public Library. Please submit only one survey per Lincolnshire household/business by Friday, Feb. 17. Surveys should be completed by a resident/employee who is at least 18 years old. Thank you for sharing your vision of Lincolnshire.

We invite you to attend Lincolnshire’s Open House from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, Lincolnshire Village Hall, 1 Olde Half Day Road. This event will allow you and other community members to provide input about issues facing Lincolnshire by engaging in several interactive activities and conversations with staff and Teska Associates.
