Bulldog Brief

We are the Wylie Way! 5/15/16

Thank you!!!!

A HUGE thank you to everyone for your help and support throughout our testing season. Everything went extremely smooth and I am confident our bulldogs did GREAT!! From taking kids to Gateway, keeping them quiet in the halls/rooms, field trips, etc. - everyone's efforts made the testing week wonderful. A GREAT BIG shout out to Jamie for her fabulous organization, training, and communication!! AND - her right hand woman Deidra Winn for all they both did to make sure materials were ready, directions were clear, and settings were perfect. It takes a village and I appreciate you all for making it fabulous!

ps - I think the only negative and casualty was my phone. It did not survive STAAR testing, but I am hoping to be back to the 21st century by Tuesday. If I have missed a text/call - I apologize.

Being Present. . . .

As an update on our challenge - YOU ARE DOING GREAT!!! Many mornings we are sitting at 100% with a few mornings with only a few team members missing. As I am positive these last few days of the challenge will be the same, we want to make sure we continue to be present for the final 14 days of school. I love the pictures that have been sent, the laughter when I come through when proving you are ALL there, and the BIG waves making sure I see you are all there! You all make me SMILE and I love most of all our kids get a sincere hello and welcome in the morning. For some of our kiddos - you are the first smile and calm hello they will experience. Keep up the great work!! I see jeans in our future for Wednesday and beyond. . .

PLCs this week. . .

K-2 - Scoring Writing on Tuesday 5/17

3-4 - Please get with Jamie regarding plans

End of year data/scheduling cards are coming. I will bring them to grade levels on Monday. 3rd grade - I am still waiting on the district for your cards. 4th grade - nothing needed at this time

Teacher Requests

This time of year you may receive questions from parents asking your recommendation for their child for next year. This is always such a hard position to be in regardless of your grade level. I always tell parents I would put my child in ANY class here at Smith because you all love kids and do a great job helping them learn and grow. I recently had a 1st grade teacher tell me her response to this questions - "Really - all of our 2nd grade teachers are great!! They are all awesome teachers and will take care of your child." This is a wonderful response and a great way to support our entire staff and grade levels. If a parent insist on sending a request, please encourage them to send specific reasons and/or characteristics of the type of teacher they feel their child needs. These are the only requests I consider.

Books available for summer reading/book study

We have 6 copies of the following two books:

Guided Math

Reading Strategies

If you are interested in doing an online book study with the Guided Math book (most likely via Facebook or Google), please let me know as soon as possible.

The reading strategies doesn't lend itself as much to a book study, but can be checked our for some great suggestions/resources.
