Schmucker Middle School PTO Newsletter
Letter From the PTO President
It’s hard to believe that we are just a few short weeks away from the end of another
successful year. The PTO has been actively involved in many endeavors this year.
From the first day of the Walk-Around to our Book Fair, to the many Staff
Appreciation events, to the fundraisers and Walk-A-Thon, to the upcoming 8th grade
party—it has been a great year! I am so thankful for all our committee and board
members, as well as parents who have stepped up and offered their help. The PTO
would not exist without all of you. As I hand over the reins to Cleary Jankowski
who will serve as next year’s president of the PTO, I want to reiterate my gratitude
to all those who have been on our team. Thanks also to Mr. Galiher who has been a
steady support to all of our efforts. Here’s to a fantastic 2015-16 year!

8th Grade Party - Friday, May 1st
The 8th Grade Carnival Party is almost here! We have about one hundred students planning to attend this fun event and tickets are on sale in the office through Friday for $10 (T-shirt no longer included with ticket price). We have plenty of free food: pizza, popcorn, slushies, candy, and drinks. We also have some amazing entertainment planned including great music, a photo booth for snapshots with your friends, a cash cab for some mobile trivia fun, minute to win it games for the true competitors, a balloon artist, and great novelty souvenirs. Please encourage your 8th grader to join in the fun. Also, we are still very much in need of adult chaperones for this event. So, if you are not busy, we have a wonderful way for parents/guardians to spend their time as well!
A very sincere thank you to all of the members of the 8th Grade Carnival Planning Committee for devoting their time, energy, and talents to this worthy cause. These students too seldom have an opportunity to celebrate with so many of their classmates and it wouldn't be possible without your commitment. So to Kristin Pica, Amy Boardley, Amy Tiebout, Kathy Laatz, Lisa Gerber, Amy Chrise, Ellen Koellner, Kerri Cook, Michelle Hogan and Kristin Lacognato: you are very much appreciated!

Walk-A-Thon Thank You's
A HUGE thank you to all of the parents that volunteered to help at the walk-a-thon and ice cream party. We raised over $6,000 for the PTO and individual students' 8th Grade Washington D.C. trip accounts! We would also like to thank Mr. Galiher and the Schmucker staff for their support in making this a successful event. Lastly, a special thank you to Mr. Modlin, Mr. Sears, and Mr. Miller for being our "dunkees" for the dunk tank which the students enjoyed!

SCHMUCKER STAFF APPRECIATION/HOSPITALITY
A final note from Meg McQueen and Julie Massey
Dear Friends: This has been an awesome year to be a part of the Schmucker PTO! We are so blessed with an amazing board and the huge group of volunteers who make everything come together beautifully. Although our weather is still a bit cool, we hope you have seen the cheery spring welcome in front of Schmucker in the planters. Just a friendly reminder that spring is here and summer is right around the corner.
A HUGE THANKS to our Schmucker Staff Appreciation Volunteers! Each month this year we have provided our SMS Staff with food and treats. Just a small reminder that we support them and care about them. You all have baked, cooked, purchased all kinds of food and goodies, delivered items to school early, responded to the needs quickly, gone above and beyond, and the IMPACT you had on our SMS Staff was impressive. All the little things we do mean a great deal. YOU MADE IT POSSIBLE! THANK YOU!!!!!!!
If you are returning to SMS next year we hope you will join our team again. Next year will be our last as we both have 8th graders. If you would like to come along side us we would love to show you the ropes! You can carry on the great tradition of PTO Staff Support/Appreciation at SMS! (email info below)
Also, a huge THANKS to Sean Galliher, Debbie Pletcher, Maureen Munger, Linda Brown and Holly Clemans for being our administrative link at SMS. You all make it so easy to provide support! Much appreciation also to the CUSTODIAL STAFF for being so kind, friendly and helpful! We are always asking for help and the custodial staff just goes above and beyond to make our job easy.
Have a great summer!
Meg McQueen and Julie Massey
Box Tops and Labels for Education
The collection of Box Tops and Labels for Education is year round! Please continue to clip these labels and send them to school. Clean out your drawers and send them in before school is over to make room to save them all summer long! The SMS PTO has earned over $500 in Box Tops alone this school year. Please keep bringing them in!
