A Message from our Principal...
Dear Jefferson Families,
My, oh my, the time is flying by! Can you believe that we have just begun the 4th and final quarter of this 2021-2022 school year? It certainly has been an interesting year. We have learned a lot. And, we’ve learned a lot about things we never expected to know much about. At least that’s been true for me! How about for you?
Meanwhile, our students are still expected to reach learning targets that move them towards mastery of the state standards. Teachers are working hard to keep students interested and focused on those learning targets. One of these targets that you may hear your child talking about right now is writing an ‘extended response’. This is a very important skill and one that requires a lot from students and teachers. Writing an extended response is really writing an essay. It requires that students use critical thinking skills to write in an organized way as they explain their thinking about a question or a prompt that stems from something that they are reading. Students use prior knowledge, cite evidence from texts, make connections and draw conclusions. They demonstrate their knowledge of grammar, vocabulary and punctuation. This is a huge skill that takes a lot of time and practice. This essential communication skill gives students the ability to clearly express their thoughts in writing. We are working hard on this skill at Jefferson School. Please ask your child how they are doing on this challenging task.
There is a lot of learning going on at Jefferson. We look forward to a jam-packed 4th quarter! Please keep in touch with us and let us know if you have any questions, concerns or comments.
Happy Spring,
Dr. Judy Floeter and Mrs. Tasha Rayas

Student Mental Health Days
Students ages 6 to 17 years old across Illinois can now take up to five excused mental health days per school year.
Parent must call the student to the main office (please make them aware that a mental health day is being used).
A mental health day is not the same as a sick day, and students do not need a doctor's note.
Students will have the opportunity to make up any missed work, and the missed day will not be used against the student's consideration for Cum Laude with attendance.
After a student takes two mental health days, school personnel will schedule a meeting with the student and parents to create a support plan.
