Ranger Nation Network Newsletter
Ranger Pride, Let's Ride
6th Edition: September 25 - October 1
Are You Ready for Report Card #1?
Ranger Families,
As we prepare ourselves for the final days of the month of September, I encourage each of you to remain focused on attendance and grades. Progress Report grades were posted last week, and this should serve as a reminder of our priorities as week closed the first grading period on September 30, 2022.
Did you know that messing a significant amount of class could result in the loss of credit? Attendance matters and it is important to stay on top of this to ensure credit is earned each semester.
Please take a moment to review the important information contained in this week's newsletter.
Ranger Pride, Let's Ride!
With Gratitude,
Brian Roberson

National Hispanic Heritage Month 2022
We are excited to kick off Hispanic Heritage Month celebration which is celebrated nationally from September 15 through October 15.
Hispanic Heritage Month exists to celebrate the histories, cultures, and contributions of Hispanic Americans whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. We celebrate those who have contributed to our shared history and championed and inspired all to achieve success.
We are seeking input from our students, families, and staff to offer ideas on potential programs and celebrations to honor Latinx and Hispanic Culture. Please email Principal Roberson if you would like to offer ideas. (brian.roberson@lcisd.org)

B.F. Terry Graduate Breaks Barriers
FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas – The city of Arcola’s new top cop is the first Black woman chief in Fort Bend County history.
Chief Arika Carr was sworn into office last week after serving as interim chief since Aug. 1.
“It’s been an enormous show of support. Never would I have imagined that I would make history, but it’s really, really exciting to be the first,” she told KPRC 2 News.
The Rosenberg native and B.F. Terry High School graduate said her chosen career was born out of childhood fear.
“Oddly enough, I was terrified of police as a child. I had some instances with officers that were not good. I just felt like I didn’t want anyone else to go through that... so I said, why not go to the academy
(and) become a police officer where I can make a difference,” Chief Carr said.
She started out at the city of Meadows Place police department in 2010, then joined Arcola police in 2017. She had a goal of becoming a sergeant in five years, but she did it in one.
“I believe that she has the vision to advance that police department to where it needs to be,” said Mayor Fred Burton.
Sheriff Eric Fagan, who made history himself in 2020 by becoming only the second Black sheriff in Fort Bend County in 151 years, calls Chief Carr a trailblazer who will be an important role model.
“Seeing a person that looks like you in a position of authority, will help other young women to know that they can aspire to do the same thing,” Sheriff Fagan told KPRC 2 News.
“My goal is to have my officers out there where they’re engaged in the community, where they see more positive effects versus the negative effect of policing,” Chief Carr said.
She also has plans to expand the police department staff to keep up with the growing city of Arcola.
Terry High School Student Hailey Torres WINNER - Class Champion Steer at Fort Bend County
Terry senior, Hailey Torres, wins her class at the Fort Bend County Fair with her steer. She has the class 1 AOB champion steer. Even more exciting news, she is also a class winner with her goat, placing fourth in her class. She will sell both of her animals at the auction this Thursday night.
She is going out with a bang, representing Terry with the class champion and a goat in the premium auction this Thursday night a 7:00 pm. It is free to get into the auction. Please share this with all the teachers at Terry, your family, friends, and business owners to come out and cheer her on as she walks across the stage. The money she receives from the auction will go into her college savings account. Anyone can contribute to her total; as an "add-on" buyer, every bit counts $10, $20, $50

Parking Lot Procedures
Please review the revised parking lot diagram to visualize our morning arrival process.
All students and staff using the main parking lot will be issued a parking tag and assigned a parking spot. This campus safety initiative will allow motorists to move more quickly through the parking lot since their daily spot is already reserved.
Parents will release their scholars in front of the gymnasium entrance for students who will be dropped off each morning.
Additionally, please observe our new entrance and exit-only driveways. This will allow vehicles to exit the parking lot more quickly and safely.
Students interested in purchasing a parking pass may receive additional information along with our Parking Application here.

No Outside Deliveries
Terry High School is a closed campus. Scholars must remain on campus from the start of school until the end of school. Scholars are not permitted to leave campus for lunch.
We will not permit scholars to receive outside lunch delivered from delivery services such as Uber Eats, Grub Hub, Door Dash, etc.
This is for the protection of all of our scholars. We cannot have fast food delivery drivers looking for scholar on campus. If food is delivered to campus, we will refuse to accept it.
We welcome you to come and eat lunch with your scholar. Please contact your scholar’s grade level administrator at least 24 hours in advance and ensure you are prepared with the proper identification to receive a visitor’s pass. You will need your ID or Driver’s License. Please only bring lunch for your scholar.
Lamar CISD Clear Bag Policy

LCISD Safety Overview & Standard Response Protocol
Lamar CISD constantly seeks to provide a circle of protection that generates safety and security in all schools and facilities. Controlled access to buildings, visitor registry, crisis communication, employees and first responders are all essential to that cause.
Looking to implement best practices for safety and security, Lamar CISD has introduced the Standard Response Protocol (SRP). Created by the Colorado-based I Love You Guys Foundation, this standard simplifies the district’s emergency response—making it a powerful, informative and efficient guide.
The SRP refers to five specific actions in the event of an emergency or crisis. Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, Shelter and Hold are the actions students and employees are trained to perform during an emergency. A brief synopsis of each action is below.
Secure – occurs when a threat or hazard is outside of the school building. Students will remain or return inside the building. Staff will help recover students and colleagues outside the building, take roll and increase their situational awareness.
Lockdown – occurs when a threat or hazard is inside the building. Students will stay quiet and out-of-sight. Staff will lock the classroom door, turn off lights, maintain silence and obscured visibility, take roll and wait for first responders to open the door.
Evacuate – occurs when students and staff must move to another location. Students will leave all but cell phones behind, form a single-file line, show hands and be prepared for changes. Staff will lead students to the evacuation location and take roll, if possible.
Shelter – occurs when the need for personal protection is necessary, such as during a tornado or biohazard situation. Students and staff will employ appropriate safety strategies. Teachers will also take roll to account for students.
Hold – occurs when there is a need for students to clear the hallways for issues, such a medical emergency. Students will remain in their classroom until they receive an “all clear” and classes will continue as they normally would.
This protocol helps us maintain a safe learning and working environment for all students and staff.
