Principal’s Message
Before we observe Thanksgiving Recess next week, I wanted to take the opportunity to thank you for your continued support. Our school community thrives off of the home-school relationships that we develop in partnership with you and we are committed to providing the best possible experience for your child. Watching our third graders perform for our Veterans in our gymnasium filled to capacity was another reminder of the special family and community engagement that we have established here at WCS.
General Updates
Through the work of our school counselors, we are celebrating "College Day" on Tuesday, November 20. Staff members are encouraged to wear their college/university apparel to raise awareness around the importance of educating students to be college and career-ready. We are hoping that this inspires students to think about their future that continues to grow each and every day at school.
One of the most important functions of our school day is a safe ride on the school bus for all of our students. Riding the school bus is an important social experience for students and we wanted to recognize the people that help make it all possible. Our Student Council is planning a holiday bus driver appreciation breakfast on Thursday, December 6. We are incredibly thankful for the service and safety that our bus drivers provide on a daily basis and wanted to recognize them for their dedication and patience.
As a friendly reminder, in the event of a delayed opening such as this morning, our procedures remain the same. The only major difference is that we start our day exactly two hours later than normal. Please wait until staff members report to car arrival at 10:15 a.m before allowing your child to exit the vehicle. Unless there are extenuating circumstances, the gate will close at 10:32 a.m. In addition, there is no recess planned on these days given the later start to the day.
We are approaching the winter season and wanted to provide a gentle reminder for appropriate clothing for outdoor activities and ask you to please follow our guidelines. If students want to play in the snow, boots, coats, snow pants and gloves/mittens must be worn. This is a measure taken to reduce the chances of students getting their clothes wet outdoors that often results in a phone call home for dry clothing. Thank you for your attention to this request. As always, please feel free to reach out to our main office if you have any questions or concerns.
In closing, please continue the great effort of reading with your child at home each day; it truly makes a great difference. Literacy is the gateway to success!
Sincerely,
Rory O'Connor
