School Newsletter, and Updates! November 6, 2018
A Time to be Thankful!
As we approach the end of our first school Trimester, I would like to say how much I value and appreciate your partnership in supporting your students socially and academically. I am also thankful for a staff who is dedicated in providing our students with solid instruction along with creating a caring, safe learning environment.
Our school community has one of the most involved parent volunteers, and I am truly blessed to have dedicated families who put in a great amount of time and energy into making the many successful programs, activities and events happen here at Proctor Elementary. I would like to especially thank our walk-a-thon parents, Yan--Yan Kovac and Ebony Omelagah, along with the other walk-a-thon volunteers for the many hours of hard work in making this our most successful and profitable fundraiser yet!
I would also like to give a huge shout out to Proctor's Garden Club! Karen Canady, Kat Troyer, Matthew Troyer, Mr. PapaTroyer, Amina Perez, Maricor Reynolds, Carolina Pantoja, Todd Anglin, and Peter Rosen have dedicated many hours to organizing, planning, and designing our beautification days, and working to create a new school garden. This project would not have been possible without their dedication and hard work, along with the many volunteers who have shown up to work and support this project to become a reality.
As you can see, as a school administrator, I have so much to be thankful for! I have a staff who love and care for our students, parents who are supportive and involved, and students who come to school daily wanting to give their best. We are a community of kindness, and diversity, and a place where students, parents and families call home. This is what I am Thankful for!
On behalf of the Proctor Staff, I wish you a warm and restful Thanksgiving/Fall Break as you celebrate with family and friends.

Positive Patriot Leadership Team!
Castro Valley Elementary Science Olympiad is coming!
Last school year we had CV's first-ever Elementary Science Olympiad competition, and had 90 students on 15 teams from 8 different elementary schools competing. This year promises to be even better!
The program targets 4th and 5th graders, although last year a few 3rd graders also participated. The math and science concepts required do put younger students at a competitive disadvantage.
A rough timeline for participants in the program is as follows:
- Informational meetings will run in November
- A coaches' meeting for parent head coaches who want to organize teams will be held early December to talk about what is involved in organizing & leading a team.
- Parent coaches will start recruiting kids and forming teams in Nov - Dec (teacher-led teams are also welcome, if you have any superachievers!)
- Team signups will start in mid-December. Entry fees will become nonrefundable the first week in February.
- Led by the parent coaches, teams will study, build, and practice from December until May
- Competition will be held first Saturday in May (tentative) at Canyon Middle School
Attached is the flyer with more information!
Proctor Care Kits
Have you wanted to encourage your child to help others in need especially during the holiday seasons?
Well this year at Proctor, we are setting up a hands-on way for your child to do just that. Mrs. Mills (Proctor parent), and Mrs. Ghereben are working on plans to host an on campus event where the children can build care kits for those in need. In order to make this successful we need parent assistance. Depending on the amount of donations and committed parent help received we will either have the building of the care kits available to the children during 1-2 recesses and lunch for 1 day or if we have enough donations and parents volunteers we will have 2 full days available for the teachers to sign up and bring their entire class over to participate. We will not know which schedule it will be until we know what we have received.
Please bring all items to school the week of Dec 3rd-7th so that we have time to collect and sort them prior to the Care kit building the following week on Monday the 10th and/or Tuesday the 11th.
Kindergarten- New socks adult sizes
First Grade- Fruit cups or applesauce pouches
Second Grade- chewy Granola or Cereal Bars
Third Grade- Warm Hats
Fourth Grade- Gloves
Fifth Grade- Packs of Crackers filled with cheese
If you would like to help for this event or your family/business would like to contribute other items to this event please contact Tracy Mills (707)330-7422, or midnitcwgr1@yahoo.com.
