The Story That Changes Everything:
Legging Reminder
Many girls are wearing leggings to school without the proper covering. The MISD student handbook states, "Spandex, tights, leggings / jeggings, and yoga style clothing will be allowed only if they are worn under pants, shorts, skorts, dresses, and skirts that are fingertip length front and back all the way around." This is found on page 46 of the student handbook. This includes biker shorts as well. Your student will be asked to change into clothing that is appropriate that they may have on hand or they will be asked to call home to get a change of clothes. Shirts worn covering just below the buttocks doesn't fall within this guideline either and students will be asked to correct this as well.
UIL One Act Play Auditions
UIL One Act Play auditions will be October 1st and 2nd after school 4:30-6:00. See Mr Tamayo if interested.
PTA News
Welcome back to school!!! We have several opportunities to help support the PTA with spirit day around the area.
Food deliveries
We are unable to accept deliveries of any sort from outside vendors such as flower deliveries or Uber Eats, Grub Hub, Door Dash, etc for students. Parents please plan accordingly on event days since these deliveries cannot be accepted.
Volleyball and Football admittance information
We are excited about our sports games beginning. For each game, an admittance ticket is required and needs to be purchased at the game. Cash or check are accepted. Adult tickets are $3 and students $2. If you have a grandparent 65 over, they can go to Newsome Stadium and pick up a Golden Ticket that allows seniors into games for free. Ms. Sally will be happy to help you at Newsome Stadium.
Also, when we have games on campus, students are to leave campus and go home before they can return. We don't not have supervision before the games for students. Students are also to watch the game while in progress. Reminders are given to students the last 15 or so minutes before the end of the game to call their rides. Student spectators need to have left the campus by 30 minutes after the game or we will ask them not to return to future games.

Arrival and Dismissal at DJMS
We are doing a great job as we begin this new year. Thank you for being patient as everyone learns the new routines and procedures for arrival and dismissal. Just a few reminders to keep in mind as we move forward this year.
- Students are to be dropped off in front of the building for arrival. The building opens at 8:10 each day. If arriving for a sport, follow the coaches directions for arrival.
- Students are to be picked up on the side or in front of the school. This is the Broad St. side or the Day Miar side of the school.
- Follow the flow of traffic through the parking lot
- Students walking home or being picked up by their parents will leave the building from the front. Students are not to leave the building from side or back exit areas.
- Keep the circle drive clear for our designated cars and buses for that area.
- Keep the area in front of the dumpsters clear. This is a no parking or standing zone.
- The bus lane is in the back of the building near the football field. This is for buses only.
- If driving in the back, be mindful that students are crossing to the field for practice before and after school.
Tardies
In the first few days of school, we have allowed the students to get the lay of the land and adjusted to their new schedules. Beginning Wednesday, August 21, tardies will begin to accrue. The process will be explained during our expectation meeting on Wednesday. When a student inputs a tardy, an automated email is sent to the parents by their assigned administrator. We ask that parents speak to their student about the tardy once they arrive home. Administrators do not speak to each student when the tardy is assigned. When the tardy is inputted by the student, they receive a slip that explains the consequence that is issued. The consequences range from a warning to time in the Alternative Classroom (AC) if too many tardies are accrued.
Dress Code
The students are following it well as we begin the year. Please remember the rips or tears in jeans must be below fingertip length when arms on down by the side. This follows the same guideline as the length of shorts and dresses. Also, no sagging is allowed. Crop tops need shirts under them if any skin can show. Leggings must have a covering of shorts or skirts over them. If shirts are cover, the shirt must be of finger tip length as well. To see the full dress code, visit the link below.
