A Message From Heather Patterson, GRHS Principal

Happy Sunday GRHS Longhorns,

Happy Mother's Day to all our Longhorn Mamas out there! We hope your day is full of blessings and love!

Thanks for all the love you showed us this past week for Staff Appreciation Week! We are so thankful for your kindness and generosity, the luncheon was OZ-SOME and the notes and treats were perfect! You are appreciated!

Keep making those SMART decisions with behavior, academics, and attendance...it all matters!

Decision Day was a success! We celebrated with food, fun, music and prizes! Big Shoutout to Mrs. Ford for all the planning and to our GRHS staff that came out to help and have a little fun with us as we celebrated our Longhorns that are College, Career, and Military bound! Special thanks to LCISD Board President, Joy Williams, and our LCISD Director of College and Career Readiness, Lindsey Troutman for joining in the Longhorn Celebration!

Dress code still matters, so please make sure you are WELL within it each day! That means your shorts are LONG enough, shorts can be SEEN WELL BELOW those oversized t-shirts, no mid drift showing (which means the length of your shirt matters too), and no hoodies UP inside the building.

ID's are mandatory...or exemptions will be declined! This is NOT a new rule!

If you do not have an ID at this point, you will need to purchase a new one for $5 in the library from 8:00-8:15am. If you choose not to, there will be a HOLD placed on your account for the end of year. (NO exemptions/graduation/final grades, etc) Remember No ID = No Tech visible! Please make sure you are following this rule as well as being in dress code and to ensure that you are not written up for non compliance.

The front office is open daily Monday- Friday 8:00-4:00pm to assist you. You can also directly email us or call 832-223-4200 during the same hours. We are happy to help!

Attention Students Taking AP Exams!

Please read the following information carefully.

Morning exams: Students must be ready to enter testing room at 7:45 a.m. If you are not present for the exam at 7:45, you may be counted absent and not be allowed to test. Students need to make arrangements to get to school on time and allow for traffic, trains, etc.

You should bring the following items to the exam room:

  • Several sharpened No. 2 pencils (with erasers) for completing multiple-choice answer sheets

  • Pens with black or dark blue ink for completing areas on the exam booklet covers and for free-response questions in most exams

  • A watch (in case your exam room does not have a clock that you can see easily) The watch cannot beep or make any noise

  • Up to two calculators with the necessary capabilities if you are taking an AP Calculus, Chemistry, Physics, or Statistics Exam. (Visit www.collegeboard.com/ap/calculators to learn more about the calculator policy for each of these exams, and for a list of authorized calculators.)

  • A ruler or straightedge if you are taking an AP Physics Exam

DO NOT bring the following to the exam room:

  • Cell phones, digital cameras, personal digital assistants (PDAs), BlackBerry smartphones, Bluetooth-enabled devices, MP3 players, e-mail/messaging devices, or any other electronic or communication devices. GRHS is not responsible for any damaged or stolen electronics.

  • Books, compasses, mechanical pencils, colored pencils, correction fluid, dictionaries, highlighters, or notes

  • Rulers and straightedges (except for Physics exams)

  • Scratch paper (notes can be made on portions of the exam booklets or, for Chinese Language and Culture and Japanese Language and Culture, on scratch paper provided by the proctor)

  • Reference guides, keyboard maps, or other typing instructions

  • Watches that beep or have an alarm – no smart watches!

  • Ear plugs

  • Portable listening* or recording devices (even with headphones) or photographic equipment

  • Food or drink*

  • Clothing with subject-related information

* Unless this has been preapproved as an accommodation by the College Board Services for Students with Disabilities office prior to the test date.

BE ON TIME for your exam: 7:45 a.m. for the morning administration and 12:00 p.m. for the afternoon administration. Students may not be dismissed until an exam has officially ended; do not ask to leave early if you finish before the end of the exam. If you play a sport or have a job, it is your responsibility to inform your coach or employer of your AP Exam obligation, and arrangements should be made accordingly.

Students who normally have C or D lunch will go to B lunch and then report directly to the testing room by 12:00 pm. If you are taking two exams in the same day, you will need to bring a sack lunch that day. You will not have the time or opportunity to go through the lunch line in the cafeteria

If you are scheduled for a STAAR test on the same day as your AP exam, you will take the AP exam on the scheduled day and take the STAAR test on the make-up day.

Get a good night’s rest before your exam and eat a nutritious breakfast. You are allowed to bring a snack and beverage for your 10-minute break. However, food and drink are prohibited in the exam room. It is advisable to bring a sweater in case the room temperature is below your comfort level.

You are required to abide by the policies of both the College Board and George Ranch High School during the exam period. Any misconduct will be reported and could jeopardize your AP Exam score.

*Please make sure you are signed up for the correct exams by reviewing your Total Registration testing schedule.

If you have any additional questions or concerns, feel free to contact me. Good luck!

STAY TIGHT Longhorns!

Campus Expectations and Driving/Parking Reminders!

Expectations are Clear!

Not adhering to the campus expectations is not an option. I have been crystal clear and also personally review them every morning on announcements. If you choose to NOT follow them, you are choosing to accept the consequences, including ISS, OSS, possible ALC, and of course the loss of your exemptions. Most of our campus is doing a great job with this, but if you are one that is NOT, now is the time to fix it. Disrespect will get you in trouble, so the sooner you understand rules/policies are meant to be followed, not argued, the more successful you will be not only in school but in life. If you are causing unnecessary work for us, due to non compliance to very fair rules and expectations, you will be suspended, because we are focusing on the Longhorns that are trying their best and making end of year academic success as the priority.

Driving and Parking Reminders:

  • Please make sure you are parking in YOUR designated parking spot (that was paid for). A few students have been parking in visitor parking, you will be towed moving forward, there are no warnings. We're short on spots for subs and various district personnel visiting the campus for the day when you take these spots.
  • Leave a little earlier, by you running late, you are causing major parking lot safety concerns. No more u-turns on 762 to bypass the traffic light, because this is very dangerous. Fort Bend County has been notified so they will start patrolling it.
  • Speeding and cutting across the parking lot will result in you losing your driving/parking privileges. The safety of our Longhorns and staff is too important to me.
  • Parents dropping off students in the parking lot, you will need to stay in the driveway, or pull in a spot to drop off, blocking the parking spots for staff is keeping them from being on duty on time. This creates an unsafe environment for us, and that cannot happen. Thanks for your help!

BOYS REGIONAL TRACK MEET RESULTS from last week!

On Friday and Saturday, April 29th and 30th, the varsity boys track and field team had 6 athletes participating at the regional track meet. Competing in the finals on day 1, the Longhorns had seniors Kaleb and Kyle Kiser in the triple jump, while fellow senior Luke Ingelmo competed in the pole vault. The twins, Kaleb and Kyle finished 4th and 5th respectively, while Luke placed 6th. On day 2, seniors Michael Menely and Kaleb Kiser participated in the high jump. Both would clear opening height, but fall short on their second heights, along with 8 other competitors. Opting out of a jump off, Kaleb would finish 9th. For Michael though, he would choose to participate in a jump off, seeking to break the school record and score points. Coming up short of the school record, he would better his placing and finish 5th. In the running events of day 2, senior Shane Gardner would enter the finals of the 110m hurdles with the 2nd fastest time from day 1, while junior Ife Famogun would enter the 300m hurdles with the 6th fastest time from day 1. Shane Gardner would punch his ticket to the state meet, placing 2nd in the 110m hurdles; while Ife would better his time and place, running just short of a personal best, but placing 3rd and just missing the state meet. Congratulations to the young men on such and great season and good luck to Shane Gardner as he will compete for a second year at the state meet in the 110m hurdles.
