COVID-19: SCHOOL UPDATE
Thursday, March 19, 2020 (Update #2)
No E-Learning on Monday, March 23
As I shared earlier today, Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb directed all schools in the state to remain closed until May 1, 2020.
As this situation progresses, it is my desire to maintain frequent communication with you in order to ensure that we are keeping you apprised of how St. Luke is working to respond to the latest updates provided by the state of Indiana.
The Archdiocesan Leadership team is meeting tomorrow to discuss how this extension will impact our educational program. Upon receiving guidance from the Archdiocesan Superintendent of Catholic Schools, Gina Fleming, I will be collaborating with both my fellow North Deanery Principals and our local St. Luke leadership team to re-evaluate our plans going forward. Those plans will be communicated to you by the close of business on Monday, March 23rd.
We will be pausing our e-learning on Monday, March 23rd.
Knowing that we will likely be continuing e-learning for a greater duration, we are suspending
e-learning on Monday, March 23rd in order to allow all parties to pause, reflect and regroup. Our staff will be using this day to reflect on the learning experiences, student performance and parent feedback from this week and use that feedback to help drive our plans and lessons going forward. Parents and students, we hope this extra day allows you to take a breath, catch up if there were any challenges this week, or just take a day to be together as a family in the midst of these challenging times.
We will resume e-learning on Tuesday, March 24 through Thursday, March 26th.
Spring Break will begin, as planned, on Friday, March 27th.
Please know that we continue to be committed to providing the highest quality educational experience possible thanks to our innovative and dedicated faculty and administration. We appreciate your support of your children's e-Learning experience and your understanding of the unique challenges we face. Please pray for all Archdiocesan school leaders tomorrow as we come together to prayerfully discern the most appropriate way to move forward in our e-learning ventures.
Prayerfully,
Mrs. Kissel
In working with Governor Holcomb, IDOE announced the following for schools:
- Mandated Statewide School Closure until May 1 – This mandated closure follows recent Centers for Disease Control guidelines to limit gatherings to less than 10, and may be extended through the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. Schools utilizing eLearning can continue to do so as determined by their local school administrators and school boards.
