Professional Artifacts
New Program Implementation
This training consisted of an orientation meeting for next school year's 20 Middle School (MS) Dual Language (DL) teachers. Teachers were provided with an overview of the program, upcoming professional development, an instructional framework, and an opportunity to meet and greet DL teachers from different schools teaching in the same content area.
Project Based Learning
Project based learning is a best practice that allows our learners to apply 21st Century Skills. This presentation served two purposes, (1) inform teachers about PBL, and (2) provide teachers with the opportunity to outline their own project.
Building Academic Vocabulary through interactive word walls
Learners need multiple exposure every day to academic vocabulary. One easily applicable manner to do this is through the use of interactive word walls.
Formative Assessment Process
The formative assessment process is a continuous cycle of checking for understanding, providing and receiving feedback and making adjustments as needed. It is key to ensuring that all learners reach their learning outcome and keep from falling through the cracks.
Program Survey: Parents of Incoming Students
This survey was sent out to approximately 1500 parents of current 5th graders who have participated in a dual language program at the elementary level and are possible candidates for the Middle School Dual Language program. It was an interest survey that helped outline the program's registration process.
Social Media
Parents and community members of all backgrounds consistently use social media as a source of information. Social media is a free marketing tool that allows educators to keep the community informed about campus events.

DL Website
This easy to remember parent and community website stores everything having to do with Middle School Dual Language, including a model description, a Q&A document, and more.
Program Enrollment Process
As the middle school dual language coordinator, one of my projects is to ensure that a seamless program enrollment process is in place. After receiving feedback from key stakeholders like principals, student services, counselors, associate superintendent of middle schools, teachers, and parents, a strong system was developed and implemented.
Summer Bridge Program
The MS DL Summer Bridge Enrichment Camp is a 3 week camp that allows Spanish Speaking students to continue to develop their Spanish proficiency through project based learning with the opportunity to present their final product to a panel of professionals.
(CWC) Curriculum Writing Cadre- Summer
During three (3) consecutive summers, I coordinated the writing of bilingual centers, bilingual research centers and exemplar lessons in all four core content areas, Kinder- 5th. This included budgeting, recruitment of 30 bilingual teachers across the district, teacher training, and review of completed work.
Teacher Observation Tools
The checklist linked below is a tool from the Gómez and Gómez Dual Language Training Institute. As specialists, we each were assigned 10 schools to visit for observation of dual language teachers. We used the checklist to give feedback and conference with each teacher observed.
