United Sound Student Showcase

On Wednesday, the students in the United Sound program held their first public performance for family and friends. The four budding musicians in Mr. Firth's Life Skills class have been mentored by their peers from the GHS Jazz Band every Wednesday after school. Throughout this time, they have selected their instrument and have learned several notes. The United Sound program is a wondeful opportunity for not only the Life Skills students, but the mentors as well as the faculty who brought this national program to GHS. Thank you Mr. Firth, GHS Life Skills teacher and Mr. Rutherford, GISD Director of Bands! The mentoring will continue throughout the next semester to further increase their knowledge of the instruments.

Congratulations to our new musicians:

Tony Gonzalez (trumpet)

Victoria Oliver (trombone)

Ja'Ci Ross (euphonium)

Benjamin Battle (drums/percussion)

Leadership in the Classroom Builds Leaders in the Community

GHS Seniors Asael Lagos and Kennedy Schmitz are participating in the Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce Leadership Gainesville class this year. Eight times throughout the year, they will spend the day with 15 other community leaders learning about Gainesville. The December theme was Art, History, and Culture which included information packed stops at Morton Museum circus exhibit, State Theatre, Butterfield Stage, Kinne’s, Medal of Honor Park, Depot Museum, and the NCTC performing arts center. We are extremely proud of these two fantastic GHS students who are making a difference in our school and our community!
