Council Actions
- Council approved agreement with Pedrotti to maintain Scada equipment. [Funding: Water/Sewer Rates] WHY? Automation of water/sewer plants & pumps utilizes Scada equipment to turn processes on/off, which requires maintenance & adjustments over time. Approved agreement with Lamp Rynerson for design of overlay projects for this season. [Funding: Trans. Trust] WHY? Project selected is Jesse James Road from Hwy 69 @ Hospital to Hwy 10 @ Roberts Robertson.
- Approved agreement with Lamp Rynerson for on-call services. [Funding: various] WHY? Need to respond to unplanned issues that require consultation with engineers without the delay bidding would require. Council approved authority to issue administrative warrants. [Funding: none] WHY? Will enable dangerous building inspections when property owner is uncooperative.
- Appointed Brian Yarbough to Vintage CID vacancy & heard Planning & Zoning Annual Report.
Staff Credits
Senior Center Volunteer Anita Deckard is recuperating from a broken hip & will be greatly missed; hoping for a speedy recovery & return. Welcome four new part-time employees hired during February, three working on Fitness Staff @ Community Center (Jacob Leonhard, Michael Birmingham, Darla Thrasher), one rejoins Construction Services as part-time after retirement (David Shadwick).
Key Project Updates
- Yard Waste Drop-off Site is now open Saturdays. [Funding: Trash Rates] WHY? Residents encouraged to dispose of yard waste at Site rather than disposal in street or streams, which can require additional clean-up costs.
- Brent McElwee selected to receive Statewide Preservation Award; Ceremony scheduled April 21st @ State Capitol. [Funding: Historic Tax Credits, Private] WHY? For outstanding preservation work on Buckley Hotel on South Street.
- ESACC & Liberty Hospital Consortium for Paramedic Education Advisory Committee meets annually to hear status of programs to prepare Firefighters, EMTs & Paramedics for chosen career paths. Students provided an excellent training opportunity to gain experience providing city with qualified employees. [Funding: none] WHY? Career Center strives to connect high school student & adult training opportunities with jobs available locally. Local employers gain employees ready to step into job openings.
- Received contingent commitment from CDBG to provide $400K, meeting with EDA to discuss pending grant for $500K, both requested to improve N. Jesse James Road.
- P&R staff is working on Gazebo area @ new Splash Park. [Funding: LWCF, Foundation, CIP] WHY? One of the top desired recreational activities is a splash park.
- Bids received this week for Digester grant compliance. [Funding: CDBG, CIP, Bond, Sewer Rates] WHY? Grant requires experienced grant administrator to ensure compliance.
- Bids to be opened next week for Refuse Services & rehab of Henrie Hill Bridge. [Funding: Trash Rates, Road/Bridge] WHY? Purchasing Policy requires competitive bids to ensure good pricing.
