Weekly Updates

Happy Saturday, Bobcat Families! The final two weeks of school are upon us. Some may feel eager and excited for the summer, and others may feel sad that the school year is over. Some may feel a little bit of both - I know we do! We hope you enjoy the weekend, and please be sure to read below for several important updates as we wrap up the 2021-2022 school year.
Summer iPad Collection
The district has asked that all student iPads be collected before the last day of school, to be stored over the summer in the building. Summer school students' iPads will be collected and then given back to them on Friday, June 24, the last day of school. Parents may request that their child/ren keep their assigned iPads over the summer, even if they are not attending summer school. The parent must make this request by filling out this district form by Wednesday, June 22:
Parent Opt-in Form
https://forms.gle/bBNLRa6EqiBSACdd7
*NOTE: All students attending Horizons will get their iPads back on June 24th for summer learning at Horizons.
The schedule for collecting student iPads by grade is as follows:
Friday, June 17th: Pre-K
Monday, June 20th: Grades 5 (must return charger/cable as well)
Tuesday, June 21: Grades 3 and 4
Wednesday, June 22: Grades 1 and 2
Thursday, June 23: Grade K
Thank you in advance for your help. In the fall New Lebanon will be refreshed with new ipads. If you have an issue over the summer you can email me at jill_carroll@greenwich.k12.ct.us or support@greenwich.k12.ct.us.
Have a happy, safe and restful summer!
Mrs. Carroll
Mrs. Carroll
Lockdown Drill Information
Throughout the year we send correspondence related to New Lebanon School’s emphasis on student safety. Typically, our main focuses are the fire drills, bus safety and arrival/dismissal procedures. Another drill we conduct are Lockdown Drills, which is to be used if there is danger outside or within the building. During this drill we ask students to stay in their classrooms, out of sight of the door and windows, and remain quiet with their teachers. Our goal with this drill, as with the others, is to foster confidence in the steps the children need to take during potential emergencies.
On Tuesday, June 14th we will conduct our final lockdown drill of the school year - two are mandated to be completed each year. The length of this drill is approximately ten to fifteen minutes. During the drill, no one will be allowed to enter or leave the building. Mrs. Michaelson and Mrs. Eisenstein check the entire building, along with local safety personnel such as GPS Director of Safety and Security Tom Bobkowski and Greenwich Police Officers to make sure safety protocols are able to be followed. We use a calm voice and we let students know they are doing a great job of "being safe" by following teacher directions, staying quiet, and waiting for further directions.
Each teacher will speak with the children in advance of the actual drill to discuss its purpose and procedure. Depending on the age of your child, he/she may have questions and/or concerns. This is a natural response. Below are some suggested responses for you to use in your conversations with your child:
Be a good listener.
Acknowledge and empathize with their feelings.
Share with your child your personal strategies for relaxing when you feel uncomfortable.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out any time. If your child needs additional support during these drills for any reason, please reach out to Ms. Corrente or Ms. Cyr anytime. We always strive to meet students where they are and address all of their individual needs.

Fifth-graders will be placing summer plants around the school sign and removing invasive plants to make a great effort of beautification.
Substitutes Needed
We need you! Even if you can only sub one day per week. As a request from some of our parents and community members who are interested in helping out as substitute teachers, the District has greatly reduced the initial step to get started. The Connecticut State Department of Education has also introduced a swift process for the District to gain approvals. Individuals need to have some experience with children, or hold a bachelor's degree. Currently, GPS has a substitute incentive of $140 per day, and if an individual subs every day during the week, the pay increases to $160 per day.
SEAC’s Executive Functions and Working Memory Workshop
The Special Education Advisory Council (SEAC) and Office of Special Education and Student Supports held Part 1 of a workshop on May 23 that featured Dr. Lydia Soifer, who discussed executive functions and working memory. You can review the presentation and watch the video recording. Part 2 is scheduled for Tuesday, June 14, from 7:00-8:30 PM, at Greenwich High School Student Center. Next week's talk is independent of the first talk - you do not need to have gone to the first one to attend this one. For further details contact: greenwichseac@gmail.com.
