Little Lancers News

February was a fun month for our Little Lancers learning about friendships and similarities/differences. We explored measuring, building, directional and location words, tracing around stencils and templates, identifying body parts, creating patterns, and whole and half concepts. The Little Lancers also worked on friendships by practicing turn taking, identifying character traits, recognizing emotions of peers, how to respond if someone hurts your feelings, and predicting consequences of their own actions. The Little Lancers celebrated Black History Month by reading stories and comparing events in books to their own experiences, and learning about artists and different cultures. We will continue to grow in cultivating unity within our classrooms and our community and welcome families in the next couple months to share with your child's teacher your culture, special celebrations, or even come in and do a reading or activity with your child's class.

It is Read Across America Week and we are celebrating by participating in many reading activities this week.

For safety reasons please make sure if you are walking up to keep your students next to you until you get up to the area where teachers are bringing students in. Please have them avoid the cars that are parked especially now with the high snow banks.

Please make sure you are arriving for arrival time by 8:35am and dismissal time 2:35pm. If you are not on time you will have to drop off and pick from the office.

Dear Families:

Kindergarten registration is now open for next year. Children who will be five years old on or before August 31, 2022, are eligible to enter Kindergarten in the fall of 2022. All students who are entering Kindergarten must register, including those already enrolled in our Little Lancers Preschool program.

As your child is already enrolled in the Norton Public Schools, you are not required to complete the entire Kindergarten registration packet. To complete the registration process and submit your application please email the completed packet and required documents to Laurie Czazasty at Materials are due by March 18, 2022.

Please note that we do require an updated Certificate of Physical Examination. It is mandatory to include an up-to-date record of immunization (as listed on the health record), lead testing and official vision screening by a pediatrician or ophthalmologist. The completed physical form must be returned with your registration. If your child has any appointments between then and August 31st, the updated form will be required for admittance. This spring parents and guardians will be invited to join us for a Kindergarten Open House. Masking Update

As per Dr. Baeta's communication earlier this week, beginning Monday, Feb. 28th, "masking will be OPTIONAL for all students and staff, regardless of vaccination status, in all school buildings in Norton." In addition, masking is now optional on buses. The Nurse's Office remains a masking zone.

As always, we ask that if children or staff do not feel well, please stay home and isolate from others. Those who have COVID-19 symptoms, are identified as a close contact, or test positive for COVID-19 must follow the protocols that are still in place.
