New training to support educators in the 2020-2021 year

No matter how we begin our learning in 2020-2021 - online, in-person, or a combination of platforms - we know we'll need to keep refining our educator toolbox to develop key tools to support students' social emotional and academic growth. At NKCES, we've been developing new trainings and resources to support the region. Check out some of the new trainings below!

New trainings to support teachers as we head back to school!

Built with growing in mind

At NKCES, we focus on growing our professional educator toolbox. We've built several tools to help teachers and we hope you'll join us in the learning! Our effort to bring some kindness to COVID-19: our online learning site is FREE for everyone!.

Option 1: In our NKCES Online Training Website, you have access to "on demand" 2 hour PD that you can access with the click of a button. Training topics range from behavior supports to screencasting for instruction and trauma informed care. All trainings on this site can be completed for PD or EILA credit.

Option 2: At our NKCES website, you can explore our calendar at a glance to register for trainings that will be sent to your email for participation. Training topics include Chromebook and Microsoft eligibility, baseline data, co-teaching, and more.

We've got something for everyone!

Our online learning website has 60+ trainings for special education and general education teachers, support staff, transportation and other classified staff, and administrators. We have trainings focused on trauma informed care, evidence-based behavior strategies, integrating arts into instruction, literacy and co-teaching instruction, and specific special education IEP content.

In addition, we've partnered with expert consultants at Kentucky School for the Blind, Kentucky School for the Deaf and the Kentucky Autism Training Center to offer trainings specific to supporting students with disabilities in general education settings.

Thriving in Quarantine Times

Our hope is that this collective work will provide tools to help you thrive during this uncharted journey.

The COVID19 outbreak will have a significant impact on practice, structures and education as we know it. This can be a positive –if we shape it. Finding ways to use our tools, strengthen our capacity and support one another will refine us in a beautiful way.

We invite you to take time to explore a few new tools or visit some of your "favorites" to thrive through this journey. Use these tools to approach our new world with an abundance mindset, work together more effectively and stretch ourselves to think beyond our current reach. Find your spot---ask for help…take time to lean in and support one another as we connect grow and serve! Together we can emerge even stronger on the other side of COVID19- if we shape it now!

MINDFULNESS: Loving-Kindness Meditation

What Is Loving Kindness Meditation?

Loving-Kindness Meditation focuses on developing feelings of goodwill, kindness, and warmth towards others (Salzberg, 1997). Research shows that Loving-Kindness Meditation has tremendous benefits from greater well-being to providing relief from illness and improving emotional intelligence.

Using the phrases below (or phrases you prefer), repeat the words each time focusing on a different person/group. START WITH YOURSELF. This is often difficult for some individuals but it is like an oxygen mask...you put yours on first!

  1. Sending Loving-Kindness to Yourself
  2. Sending Loving-Kindness to the Neutral Party
  3. Sending Loving-Kindness to the Difficult Party
  4. Sending Loving-Kindness to a loved-one
*Grow your practice: Expand your awareness to all beings, everywhere,

Why not take a chance to increase positive emotions and decreases negative emotions?!
